Western Digital TV playback question

I am looking to buy a WD TV for my son so he can watch his programmes recorded on the HDR in his bedroom after I have transferred them to an external HDD.

I have found one for £46.51 delivered from Amazon, after Play.com wanted £62.00 for the same thing.

Just wondered if anyone could tell me if it will playback the TS files from the HDR?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...SIN=B002KQ2JKQ

According to the tech specs it does the following Video -AVI (Xvid, MPEG1/2/4), MPG/MPEG, VOB, MP4/MOV (MPEG4), RM or RMVB 8/9/10

Any feedback would be gratefully received.

I more usually run the TS files through Videoredo to trim them and then save them as MPG onto a 2TB HDD attached to my WDTV.

However to test it for you, I've just copied a TS file from my Humax HDR to a small USB drive and then plugged the drive into the WDTV and it worked fine.

Excellent news, thanks bramble

It's worth noting that the WDTV Mini doesn't play TS files recorded from the HDR. I bought one in the hope it would mirror it's bigger brothers ability to play the same codecs/formats. It doesn't however and I've returned it and ordered the WDTV 1080p instead.

Sorry to hear it didn't work for you. I'm using the original WD HD TV http://www.amazon.co.uk/WD-TV-HD-MED...3905165&sr=1-5 but I put on the latest firmware http://support.wdc.com/product/downl...el1=10&lang=en - although it looks as if the later models have different firmware, but all available from that site.

Version 1.03.01 for my model plays TS files straight from the Foxsat HDR . It would be a shame if the later models don't work.

Hi bramble, it's the mini WDTV that doesn't play TS files. It is seriously limited in what it can actually play. Hence I've returned it and ordered the same one you have.
