Hi,

My parents have just got a Foxsat hdr, and asked me to set it up for them. All appears to be working fine. However, manual padding (set to 2min at start and 5min at end of program) does not work on itv1, for some reason. It works on all other channels, though.

For example, I set it to record one instance of Dickinson's Real Deal yesterday on ITV1. The recording started on the hour, not 2 mins before, chopping off a few seconds of the programme, and ended on the hour, not 5 mins after. The recording also appears as exactly 60mins long. There were no other recordings scheduled during, before or after the recording. Doing the same on a BBC channel (say) results in a 67min recording for a 60min prog (with the 2min + 5min padding), as you would expect.

The only reason I can think for itv1 being an exception is that in order to get recording itv hd working, Humax have had to disable the padding for itv1 (or have introduced a bug which disables it). But does it really need to do this for SD recordings as well?

Anyone else seeing this?

(The box has the latest software installed after first connecting it.)

Hmmm. This has happened several times now. But I just recorded the beginning of 60 minute makovers on itv1 and it got the padding right, so maybe it doesn't do it all the time. (Note: I've not fiddled with the padding settings at all after first setting them -- so it's not like I've been switching it off and on, or anything.)

There's very few channels that need auto padding most of the mainstream ones work very well using accurate record. For the odd rogue broadcasters it's better to create a manual reservation and use series and accurate recording for the rest. ie ditch auto padding.

There's another snag with using auto padding, when the hdr checks for a record clash it ignores the padding so you can introduce a recording clash when you set the reservations and not be aware of it.

Right, so accurate record works OK then? I don't remember it working very well on the 9200t on freeview, and abandoned it pretty quickly, which is why I switched it off for my parents when I set their box up.

Also, just recorded Dickinson's real deal again (after cancelling the recording before hand which worked OK), and it failed to pad again. So maybe worth trying accurate record after all...

I've never padded since getting mine way back in 2008 and I've only lost the end of two programmes if I recall correctly.

It's a lt more reliable than the 9200. I still use one and guess what I use auto padding.

Don't panic if you see a clash warning on screen if a programme overuns into the start of another. The hdr finishes recording the first before starting the second if you do nothing. The second recording will say it's failed but normally all you miss is a few seconds from the beginning

Thanks guys.

I've set it up with auto record and done one test recording which worked out OK. I'm sure I'll be hearing about if they miss the end of something!

Thanks for posting that. I wondered where the padding had gone on one of my ITV HD recordings the other night. Just about caught the last frame of a 3 programme series so not too much grief.

Sounds like a bug to me. Not sure it's on all ITV programmes. Maybe just those that are available in HD. Something else to be aware of if you're using auto padding. Might be worth recording the programme after to be sure.
