Polly was SOOOOOOOOOOOO hot in that story!

Oh I forgot to add, it was bye bye Steven in The Savages. Nice idea that he was left as mediator, but he never really made an impact on me. Which goes to show, because I forgot to even mention his leaving in my previous post.

Keeping the thread warm...

Hope you have the reaction I did to
Spoiler
the last shot of Episode 3... I can really see Tennant striking that pose.

I didn't notice that, so went back and looked again. I get what you mean now but it wasn't obvious to me first time.

David Tennant would never be allowed anything as subtle and striking as the end of War Machines 3. They'd have to have DT walking towards the camera in slow motion while the whole of Covent Garden exploded in a ball of flame behind him ...

Are you starting on The Smugglers soon, Tiggs? As Mrs Chuff nodded off, I have to find a quiet moment to continue with it.

The pyrotechnics were too expensive in the Hartnell years.

Alas, Mrs Janitor isn't so into the classics either...

I'm planning to have a week off after The War Machines Chuff.

Mainly because I haven't got any Season 4 episodes and I want to sort that out before I get started.

Just a quick update.

Have recently watched Dalek Invasion Earth 2150AD. With Bernard Cribbens. I kept wanting to call his character Wilf. I preferred this movie to the other one, but both are still lots of fun.

I've also started on The Smugglers and have seen the first three episodes. I really have taken to Ben's character and Polly is quite lovely too. Really sad to learn that Michael Craze has passed away, he could only have been young. Anyway this is another good story, although the Doctor doesn't appear to be in this one much. I love a good pirate story...ooh aah! Just the last episode to go. Don't want to say too much as I'm not sure if Chuff has watched it yet.

I haven't seen the movies for years, but remember the first one being weaker than the second.

I got halfway through ep.2 of The Smugglers before Mrs Chuff's snoring disturbed me. Love the soundtrack CD though. The story has alwatys fascinated me, and I hope to get a peaceful moment to watch the reconstruction without the spouse knocking around ...

Poor Michael Craze. He was only 60-ish. He collapsed on his front doorstep when bringing the milk in. Can't remember if he fell and injured himself or if he had a heart attack. Anyhopw, he was terribly, terribly young. (He's quite sexy as Ben).

Suffered a heart attack after falling down the stairs to fetch the paper in, if I recall. He was 56.

Tha's really sad about Michael Craze, and yes he's quite sexy as Ben.

I've finished The Smugglers now. Not one of my favourites but a competent enough story.

I am so excited about this story CoalHill. The first cybermen story, the first regeneration. Can't wait.

And we're there already in a way. What I really like about the classic series, is how each story leads onto the next. The end of each story is the beginning of the next. What I would give for a current story to end with the tardis rematerialising somewhere and maybe something shocking to happen before the credits roll.

I guess the closest we've come to that is the Churchill phone call with the Dalek shadow...

It reminded me a bit of the very first episode of The Unearthly Child when the caveman shadow appears at the end.

Also glad to see the Billy-love thread!

I hadn't thought aboutt he recent Dalek story having the lead-in cliffhanger that Ye Olde stories used to have! Maybe I'd have noticed if it happened more often!

The Tenth Planet is a treat. It feels so modern and energetic, like The War Machines.

I lurve The Tenth Planet. Has to be one of my favourite First Doctor stories. Only seen the first two episodes but it really is a fabulous story. I find the original cybermen much more scary than the orginal daleks. Goodness knows what the audience must have thought at the time.

I hope you like Power of the Daleks as well... the recon works well except in parts of the first episode when there's just too much going on visually without dialogue to keep up with very effectively (mainly the outdoor scene).

If they only recovered one lost Troughton episode I think I'd want it to be part 1 of PotD. Likewise for Hartnell, part 4 of TTP.

Power of the Daleks and Underwater Menace are the only two soundtracks I have not listened to. I'll get round to it, one day. Nothing in the world will stop me.

The original Cybermen are the best Cybermen. The cloth-face looks so eerie and ghostly.
