I'm also a big fan of Evil. There are very few Hartnell or Troughton stories I don't like, in fact-offhand, I can only think of The Celestial Toymaker, The Dominators and The Space Pirates.

I must admit after the first two episodes it lost it's pace until the last episode. It was an okay story and I think the initial thrill was just to see the yeti for the first time.

I was watching Arc of Infinity, a while back. Why I would ever consider such a futile passtime astounds me.

Anyhow ... the point of the story is that said crap DW story whizzed me back to being seven years old: I had a couple of nights in the local Eye Hospital, having an operation on my eye. I haven't given any thought to that for ... ooh ... 28yrs, is it??? The night before the op, the Doctor came round to do all sorts of eye tests on me. The telly was on, and I was trying to watch Arc of Infinity over her shoulder, so she turned the telly off. And suddenly, I remembered the whole experience of staying in that huge old Victorian building (which has now been turned into w*nkerflats ... sorry ... "luxury apartments for contemporary city living") ... I remember being taken round to meet the other patients. I remember having to sleep in a cot. I remember there being an older girl in the same room as me, in a proper bed. I remember getting a beaker of orange squash.

All from Arc of Infinity. Who'd'a thunk it? Such a terrible piece of DW bringing back such vivid memories? A Madeleine Moment.

I have just re-read my post, and spotted that I have given the optician a capital D for "Doctor" rather than a little d for "doctor". Our favourite series subconsciously affects my typing.”

Wow there are some amazing memories being conjured up here at the moment.

You can't get a feel for a story just by looking at the telesnaps. You need to listen to the soundtrack. That is basically how I tell if it's a good story or not. The telesnaps just add to the overall picture and help you visualise the story. Marco Polo is a great story in my view and I'd love it if the episodes were discovered.

Mine too (along with the apparently defunct 'Mind Robber' one). It's fascinating to see what fans of the new series make of the original run! Keep it up. Looking forward to seeing what you make of 'The Web of Fear'.”

I can't wait for The Web of Fear. Read the book so I'm full of expectations. I hope it is as good as the book.

Regarding Doctor Who and an Adventure with the Daleks, I love that this story is told completely from Ian's perspective. Great way to tell the story.

Have to agree with Tingram's comment about The Celestial Toymnaker. What a bloody let-down that one was! Maybe it would be saved if the visuals were there ... but I doubt it.

Evil is rubbish, I was disappointed to fined The 1960s stuff is nice. So much of the Victorian stuff is just "Jamie avoiding traps in dark corridors": it's as bad as something Terry Nation would have written. The Skaro stuff has a lot of capture/escape/capture/escape routines. It could all have been done in 5eps without losing anything. Again, maybe the visuals would be different (ep.2 is great), but it feels a lot like a parody of DW to me because the cliches are so constant.

Aww I thought the Celestial Toymaker was good. Also like Evil of the Daleks. Loved the Emporer Dalek. Maybe I'm easily pleased.

The Web of Fear Part 1 has to be one of the best single episodes of Doctor Who ever. I saw it again in 1988 for the first time since original broadcast and it was just so much better than the Who that was then being produced.

Quite - 'The Web of Fear' was amongst the first Doctor Who books I read from the school library (after 'The Daemons' and 'The Zarbi') and it was, I suppose, at about that point that I stopped being just interested and became a 'fan'.

It's also the first soundtrack I heard* so it's got a lot of sentimental feelings attached.

I actually has a culpable sense of relief when those censor clips turned up, and it turned out that the Web was actually quite an effective overlay effect rather than just filling the set with foam as I'd suspected.

Still, Tigger's got 'The Ice Warriors' and 'The Enemy of the World' to go first - no skipping ahead!

*Technically, I'd listened to part of 'The Celestial Toymaker' too, but that was just some muffled talking and someone ringing a bell, and an 'early first Doctor episode' that was so distorted and muffled it could have been anything.

I was born between seasons: Revenge of the Cybermen is nearest to me birth, but I prefer the connection with Terror of the Zygons. Who wouldn't?

Ironically, I looked like a Zygon when born, and now look like a Vogan.

Better than a Vogon I suppose.

I'm glad you said that. I had this underlying worry that it wouldn't come up to expectations.

Yes and Ice Warriors starts today as Demolished said.

Sorry Tiggs: Outside and I have a burgeoning relationship, based on our mutual love of Love & Monsters and Bonnie Langford, established in the Word Association thread.

Oh forgot about that, so I'll forgive you Coalhill.

Three quarters of the way through The Ice Warriors.

Loving it. Shoey McPhee and Wallace in the same story.

Mr Tiggs is recounting playing Ice Warriors in the school playground. All is good.

Glad I'm not the only one who can't see Angus Lennie without thinking of Mr McPhee-though Peter Sallis will always, to me, be Norman Clegg that was...

Aah I chose Wallace as I couldn't remember which character he was in Last of the Summer Wine.
