Sony RDR-HXD860 recording problem
dandrew
09-01-2010
We have two RDR-HXD860's with the same problem.
If we try to set-up recordings from the EPG, the red timer marker comes on as normal then after a couple of seconds it disappears.
If the box is reset by either unplugging from the mains for a short time or by holding the power button down, it will then work fine for maybe a day or two, but then revert back to not being able to set recordings from the EPG.
Manually set recordings work ok.
The software version is 1.01.10CE.
The problem first showed up before the switchover retunes.

I see that there are a few mentions of EPG problems with these recorders on the forum, but this fault seems to be different as the EPG looks to be working ok.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Looks like it may have the potential to sort your troubles...

It's a few weeks since the update and both boxes are still working fine.
Timed recordings can be set from the guide again. It also seems to have improved the switching on from standby, where before it would sometimes cycle on and off a few times before coming on, it now comes on first try.
Another thing that appears to have changed is the time that the cooling fan runs after switching to standby, it now seems to run for longer than before.

Thanks for the help from the forum.

The cooling fan has always been a complete mystery to me on the 860, sometimes running for several minutes after standby switching, with a big rev-up before it switches off, sometimes shutting down immediately - a mind of its own.
Glad the update works for you: it's certainly cured most of my problems.
