Chuffed that I've now managed to knock up a link from LNB1 Out to LNB2 In (thanks to a very prompt ebay seller of F connectors and a bit of ordinary cooking co-ax I happened to have lying around) and that the Channels blocked together in the fourth column of the static spreadsheet do indeed now allow multiple recording/watching.

Many thanks, Graham!

You are welcome. The spreadsheet now has a menu bar item HDR if you want to download it again

Sweet! It works!

(Bit confused at first, as it looked the same, but you really did mean on the menu bar! You're obviously a man who knows his way round Excel macros and VB!)

Thanks again!

Just moved the spreadsheet over to SWMBO's laptop (more convenient than my office PC!) and, hey presto!, there were your original command buttons on the spreadsheet itself.

Both using Office 2003, I run Vista, she has XP. Could also be I have more security things running than she does...

Does the spread sheet work in Microsoft Works spread sheet?

I know it displays it but I'm not sure how to see which channels you can watch and record using it.

I've struggled to get the spreadsheet to work as it should, but Graham's been very helpful and now it's hunky-dory.

I don't know whether MS Works will run it properly: download the latest Excel spreadsheet from Graham's link above, click on 'HDR' on the menu bar and see what happens!

(There's also free software available that mimics MS Office software, and may work if the MS Works doesn't.)

No it doesn't as works doesn't support Visual Basic. Though as you say will display only.

Microsofts own Excel Viewer doesn't work either, and OpenOffice won't as it too dosesn't support VB.

However there is an add on for OpenOffice which will run the macro but there are runtime errors when trying to run Grahams spreedsheet.

I have hinted previously that Graham migh have a go at re-writing it for OOo but he didn't take the bait..

Too old to learn a new programming language . Documentation is hard to come by as well. The manual look up version works with any Excel compatible though

Sorry only Excel on a PC supports the ActiveX controls it uses. There's a manual version though that works with excel and compatibles and a version that can be displayed in a web browser

Clearly not well enough to find your elusive command buttons

Cheers, I've downloaded the HTML version.

I have my STB connect via a link cable so I take it I can watch 1 channel and record any 2 other channels as long as they are in the same 'block' of HBH, or HBV, LBH, LBV?

Exactly, connecting the LNB1 Out of the Humax HDR to the LNB2 In with a link cable (2 F connectors and a short length of co-ax) enables me to record and/or watch 2 or even 3 channels from the same block (4th column).

Did it last night, and thanks to Graham's spreadsheet was able to find another BBC1 broadcast (different to my 101 BBC1 channel) that came in the same block as Channel 4, so could record 'Silent Witness' and watch the poncey Kevin McLoud slumming it in Mumbai...

Great! Again, many thanks to Graham.

Not quite right you can record/watch any two channels from the same block.

What you can watch as a 3rd channel depends on what you are recording.

If the two recording channels share a transponder (same colour in cols 1-3) then you can watch and time shift any other channel in the block. By changing a region to record you can sometimes engineer this.

If the two recordings are on different transponders then you can watch a 3rd channel sharing a transponder with either recording

Ah cheer that is the extra information I needed.

I'm happy with the channels I can watch and record thanks to the Link cable.

It's just a shame I have to use freeview to record channels Five USA, Fiver and Sky 3.

Made a small discovery last night, with respect to recording/watching channels with only one dish input and a cable link. You probably know this already, but here goes:

When recording a particular channel, pressing 'List' shows which other channels are available for watching or recording: they are in black, whereas the unobtainable channels are 'greyed out'.
