Twin Troubles

The Sutherland family is rocked by the news that Jade is not really Kirsty's twin sister!

From the moment they arrived in Summer Bay, the lives of Kirsty and Jade Sutherland have been filled with drama. But nothing that has happened in the past few years could prepare the young pair for the bombshell that is about to be dropped on them - Jade is NOT Kirsty's twin sister after all!

In one of the most shocking storylines ever to be played out on Home and Away, life for the Sutherland family will change forever when it is discovered that Kirsty has an identical twin sister! A mix up at the hospital 17 years ago resulted in Kirsty's real twin, Laura, being switched with another baby girl born in the hospital at the same time - Jade!

But that's not all! TV WEEK can reveal that when Laura arrives in the Bay to meet Kirsty (Christie Hayes) for the first time, a devastating chain of events will be set off that will climax with a tragic accident. And while we can't reveal who will be involved in that accident, we can promise you'll be glued to your screens in coming weeks.

The Incredible situation begins to unfold when Rhys (Michael Beckley) receives a strange call from a Mrs Degroot. Soon after, the Degroots (played by Anna Lee and Damian Rice) visit Rhys. They deliver the news that Jade is their biological daughter, while the daughter they raised is Kirsty's twin! As Rhys struggles to come to grips with the revelation, he wonders how he can break the news to Kirsty and Jade (Kate Garven).

But they're about to find out the truth for themselves. When Laura (also played by Christie Hayes) takes a walk around the small coastal town, it's not too long before she runs into Kane (Sam Atwell), Seb (Mitch Firth) and Jade, all of whom mistake her for Kirsty. Quickly realising something is astray, Jade and Kirsty head home., where they are introduced to Laura. And they simply can't believe what they see or hear.

"Kirsty is just amazed when she sees a young woman who is the spitting image of her," Christie says. "She is just completley taken aback. I can't even comprehend what it would be like."

"This has come at the most inconvenient time, in terms of where Kirsty's at," Christie says. "She's just got married, she's just dealing with being pregnant and so she is quite emotionally scattered. This news really knocks her back. There are so many unanswered questions."

But it is Jade who takes the revelation the hardest. Running from the house, Jade is painfully aware she is not who she thought she was and neither is her family.

"Jade is obviously the one who feels like the outsider, like she doesn't belong," Christie says. "Kirsty is very worried about how Jade feels about it all. She will always think of Jade as her sister - undoubtedly. They've been together for nearly 18 years."

"Kirsty's main priority now is to make Jade feel as loved and as close to her as she can. And I can also say that Kirsty will find herself in need of something Laura can give her!"

Yeah, one of them knew where the othewr was when they got buried in the land slide. The writers obviously hadn't thought of this storyline then.

Yep, she is coming back for a guest role in the storyline.

I think Jade is set to go and live with her, as she is leaving, but will be back for guest appearances.

Another spoiler is that all the Sutherlands are leaving, and it is rumoured a new family may replace them at some point.

The TV Week magazine, from Australia, publishes some of its contents online.

TV Week

There are a few Home and Away sites around, including the forum on the official H&A site, that have these spoilers.

Yeh I forgot about that storyline, wasn't one of them buried in a landslide? Yeh an they were only five minutes in the Bay aswell when this happened, god they're worse than the Slaters in EE lol Wasn't it Jade who was like "I can feel her, she's hurt!!" Wonder who they explain that one with this upcoming storyline. In saying that they may just have a bond because there so close. I seem to remember in an old episode years ago Selina knew when her bf Stephen had been in an accident. As he got hurt she dropped the cup into the sink? Summer Bay is a marvellous place, they all have mutant powers now!

What did I say? I've been saying this for ages on here and many other places - how their hair colour and colour of eyes are SO different they can't possibly be even unidentical twins.

I have blonde hair. My sister has auburn hair. I have blue eyes. Hers are brown. I have clear skin. She has freckles and had quite bad acne in her teenage years. My parents both have black hair. Unless I have been horribly lied to! - huge differences in appearance can occur in families, even between two siblings.

But they are meant to be twins!!!!

In order to play out the story, Christie Hayes, who plays Kirsty, will play the role of Laura, who is Kirsty's real twin sister.

It's set to be one of Home and Away's biggest storylines.

I've not watched Home and Away for ages since I forgot to watch it for a week, came back to it and all of my favourite characters had been killed off!

But yes, these twins supposedly had psycic connections at one point. Oh well never mind!

And a baby swap... sounds like Night and Day to me!

I'd like to see how they justify the other family finding out and the Sutherlands not. Presumably the other family could only find out through the hospital and why on earth would the hospital not contact the Sutherlands, but leave the other family to do it? I'm sure there will be a completely ridiculous explanation

I'm a non-identical twin. We are completely different, most majorly because he has a penis, and last time I checked, I most certainly didn't.

Non identical twins can be no more alike than normal brothers and sisters - we came from 2 seperate eggs, and were fertilised by two seperate sperm. Identical twins are the same egg, fertilised by the same sperm, and share everything, including a placenta, but can be either identical (same "handedness") or Mirror (opposite handedness, and looks like a mirror reflection of each other, rather than identical copies.

Sorry for the biology lesson! This looks to be an interesting story, but it is possible that Kirtsy and Jade could have been sisters without looking anything alike

Your "biology lesson" may actually be something that the writers looked at.

Maybe if the actress who plays Jade (Kate Garven) decides to come back full-time, they could say she was their sister after all, just not a twin.

But with all the Sutherlands and other assosciated characters with her, leaving, I don't think she will be coming back to the show.

I think Jade could still stay around. Once Danni and Jade are gone, it may only orginally be Kirsty and Rhys, but Max is there, so is Beth with her family of five.

But where can the character of Beth go once Rhys leaves? She still has her kids, Robbie, Matilda and Henry, but she'll need a new male love interest.

Kane's character is dependent on Kirsty, hence he is likely to leave when she does.

Scott Hunter is also likely to leave when Dani leaves.

So, there is likely to be a fair new changes in Summer Bay, and possibly a new family arriving.

Jade dumped Nick after seeing him sleep with some girl on a "reality TV show" called "The Dorm".

However, it wasn't how it seemed, they didn't do anything, and the girl was an actress, and set him up.

I hear Kate Garvin is getting married this year, hence her departure. Christie Hayes is a bridesmaid.

You'd think if the Sutherlands leave, JAde would still be part of them.

Rhys is leaving? Where did you hear that?

What would be the point of introducting Robbie, Matilda and Harry if they were only shortly to leave?

Hints by the script producer on the official site's forum and various rumours going around the Net, suggest he will be leaving.

Robbie, Matilda and Henry were introduced far before this was announced and he hasn;t even fulmed his last scenes yet, so they have plenty of screen time with him.
