hi i am on sky broadband and phone and when i'm on xbox live, if the phone rings and i answer it, i get disconnected from the internet for about 10 seconds, it also happens when i disconnect from the call to. It.s only when i'm on t'd xbox, it.s fine if i'm on the pc. Has anyone experienced this before, or does anyone know what the possible cause could be? Thanks.

Hi

Normally caused by either:

1. Faulty ADSL Filter. Can be cured by replacing

2. High Reistance telephone line. Needs sky to contact BT Openreach to sort out but good luck if you can get them interested.

A dodgy filter is easiest to diagnose. Just swap it for another one. I assume you have filters fitted to EVERY phone in the house not just the one that the broadband modem/router is connected to?

If you do not have a filter on an extension phone that can cause just the symptoms you describe. It is the phone socket that is filtered not the ADSL socket so it is vital that everything you connect to the phone line (except the modem) is filtered.

Also try a different phone if you can. It could be a problem with the phone itself. And try ithe phone in different extensions as well (if there are any).

If you have the modern NTE5 master socket you can remove the lower half of the face plate and plug your modem and a phone directly into the line isolating all your internal wiring. If you do that and you get disconnections all the time with all the filters you have then there is a chance you have a line fault.

But if it is perfectly OK with all your filters and all your phones then chances are it is your internal wiring. Which will be your job to sort out. Basically you need to try and eliminate as much of your own kit as possible before calling in Sky. Sky won't be interested if it is a dodgy filter, phone or extension socket. And you could be charged quite a sum of money if you do call out Sky (and in turn they call Openreach) and it is discovered that it is your kit causing the problem.
