Bad Cover Versions
OK! - So which bad cover versions does everyone on here hate?
What popped-up, danced-up, sampled, or otherwise butchered classics do you particularly dislike? I'll start with a handful of notable ones that I originally loved, but hate the cover version. Tracy Chapman's - Baby Can I Hold You - murdered by Boyzone Bryan Adams' - Heaven - murdered by DJ Sammy The Undertones' - Teenage Kicks - murdered by Busted Joan Jett's - I Love Rock'n'Roll - murdered by Britney Patti Smith's - Because the Night - murdered by ????? and a couple of slightly obscure ones:- Van Halen's - Ain't Talkin' bout love - murdered by Apollo 440 (they called it Aint talkin bout dub Toto's - I won't hold you back - sampled, murdered, & re-named 'Another Chance' by Roger Sanchez |

Bad Covers
Actually that's Bruce Springsteen's 'Because The Night'. well covered by Patti Smith and less so by other people.

Could it be Jan Wayne? Yeah! I know it was originally a Springsteen song, but it's the Patti Smith version that I preferred. |

10,000 maniacs did a great cover of *because the night* too. but thats another thread.
for this one, how about sinead o'connor's *nothing comapres 2 u* being, rather ironically, covered by prince. Iain |

The Smiths bedsit classic 'How Soon Is Now?' turned cringe-making by we-wish lesbos T.A.T.U.

What gets me about cover versions are things like the Boogie Pimps doing Somebody To Love. Why is this regarded as a cover version and not a remix? How can it be billed as anything other than "Jefferson Airplane remixed by The Boogie Pimps"? |

Iain There are just so many options. Blondies' 'Tide is high' done by Atomic Kitten would be a personal favourite (if that's the right phrase). Marliyn Manson's obsession with 'ironic' 80's covers is just getting silly now. 'Sweet dreams' was amusing but not especially good. 'Tainted Love' was inexcusable and the new cover of 'Personal Jesus' by Depeche Mode i'm sure will be excruciating! |

Mariah & Westlife - Against All Odds
Although I love Mariah, and would stick up for her in every fight - that really was a bad song! |

i can think of plenty of good ones:-
always on my mind - pet shop boys can't get used to losing you - colour girl genie in a bottle - speedway billie jean - the sound bluntz although best left as they were are: Jump - Pointer Sisters (not Girls Aloud) Like A Prayer - Madonna (not Mad'house) Kiss - Prince (not Gwen, Missy and Alicia(?) at The Brits) |
