Really? Find me some amputees "inspired" by Mills and I`ll take it all back. They don`t seem to be rushing to this forum to defend her.
I`ve spent 20+ years in social care and health care, by the way. I`m not completely uninformed. Her money enables her to do things that other amputees can`t, and counselling without being properly trained can be very dangerous.

Right I have watched her part again now and this IS what she said

VT

HM - Have you ever worked with an amputee before?
J&C - No
HM - Have you ever seen one ice skate?
J&C No
HM - Neither have I.

HM - I'm really surprised I can move about a bit I thought I'd be flat on my face alot more, I'm used to falling over in 5 inch heels so I'm good at getting up.

Live

Basically I'm doing it for my charity and to inspire all the amputees on my website - we have 6000 +. Lots of kids wrote in after they saw me do the Dancing in America asking me to show them different things they can do. When I got asked to do this show I thought Oh I'll just chat to an ice skating amputee like I had done ski-ing and everything and none came up and I thought Oh God

So if anyone knows any please email me, I'm still working on leg issues.

PS - you are a very determined person

HM - to put it politely yeh.

PS & ME talk about being an inspiration - HM says nothing.

HM - jokes a bit about the 1 legged routine.
________________________________________________

I really can't see what OP's problem is - I can't see anything damning there.

I still think that she was talking about the members of her website when she was saying there weren't any. It links from that part.

Also watching a amputee ice skate on you tube is not the same as getting information from one.

<------------- surprised she is sticking up for HM as never expected to, but please quit with the un-necessary bashing

I just think we need to get away from this whole mindset of anyone with a disability (or not) being "inspiring" - it`s so damned patronising!

I really can`t see how watching a rich woman ice-skating on television would be an inspiration to someone stuck with one NHS prosthesis. But maybe I`m wrong.
As for "counselling"- you need to be trained to do that. Has Heather been trained? I have an idea that her idea of counselling is saying to some poor sod "You can ice-skate too!".”

She may have .... but she certainly does have experience of how to cope being an amputee herself as opposed to some trained counsellors with all their limbs intact.

I agree! I feel sorry for these people who take every opportunity to run her down. Leave the woman alone. Her biggest crime was to marry and divorce a beatle... big deal.

Agreed. I would rather talk to someone with first hand experience than someone who hasn't.

She married and divorced a BEATLE?

What a weird woman.

Seriously though, I don't like her, but you can't like everyone. I am not sure in my own mind that her charity work is all that charitable, plus she seems to be a little too filled of a sense of her own importance.

Having said that, she skated well. And thats what this programme is about.

Heather Mills comes over as very hard, determined but extremely positive and she won't let anything get in her way of achieving anything she sets out to do.

I have had dealings with the NHS because I have worked for them and suffer with severe arthritis and have attended their Pain Management Programme. What any medical professional will tell you is there is a much better chance for you to manage any situation is if you stay positive.

I don't give a monkeys that Heather Mills married McCartney who, himself, initially married into the fabulously wealthy and influential Eastman family. It doesn't worry me if Heather has opened a chain of vegan restaurants - more power to her elbow. I can't remember anyone jumping on the bandwagon and accusing Linda McCartney for selling her name to promote frozen vegetarian food.

I can only talk for myself and say that Heather Mills has been inspiring to me - not because of her wealth or whether she is, or is not, a so-called charity worker. I admire her because of her positive attitude and refusing to let anything beat her and if you disagree with me that is your perogative.

Nah - prostitution was her biggest (as in really illegal) crime. Oh, and morally, stealing the abduction and abuse story of a former friend in order to make herself look more of a victim.

Oh, and claiming her mother was also an amputee, that was fairly low. Claiming to have lived on the street. Theft of jewellery. Being a soft porn wench, and then denying it. Claiming to have been a top model at the time of her accident, when the only pics suitable for print were her own publicity shots.

Claiming to have been a published journalist by "stealing" the work of a journo called Heather Mills, that was fairly low. Oh, and claiming to have never heard of the Beatles.

Basically, if her wonky mouth is moving, the chances are that the "truth" coming out of it is just that - wonky.

She is a greedy, delusional self-publicist, a compulsive (but not clever) liar and someone who hates to have the truth pointed out to her.

And she has no natural rhythm.

Oh, and she made a point of saying that before DWTS she found loads of dancing amputees for advice but:

Quote:
“'Before I began training I went online and looked to see if there were any figure skaters out there who were amputees. There weren't any, but eventually I found an ice hockey amputee and he said that it took him four years to learn to skate and that it would be impossible to figure skate in such a short space of time. So I thought, you know what, that sounds like a challenge, why not give it a go?”

http://unrealityshout.com/blogs/danc...-heather-mills

I just googled it:
Quote:
“Results 1 - 10 of about 42,600 for amputee figure skaters. (0.44 seconds)”

Anyway, let the innocent Ms Mills be placed firmly back on her pedestal.

The woman has guts and I respect her for that, she doesn't deserve all the hate. Good for her that she doesn't let it stop her.

I judged her subjectively 2 weeks ago. Changed my mind, cant beat positive thinking. The woman is determined, not her fault she married an extremely well liked beatle. I still don't like her but admire her determination, yes I would vote for her to stay in the comp as long as she can.

Of course she does.
I'm ashamed to be part of this forum sometimes - some of the comments on here are just way beyond bad taste

Again very patronising (and rather ignorant) to speak on behalf of "everyone with a disability". She may well be an "inspiration" to a few people who have the same specific disability as she.

I am sorry if I came across as patronising, that wasn't my intention, and If I came across as ignorant for admiring somebodys courage... so be it.

Problem is that she's not a typical amputee. She can afford to get special "legs" for whatever she does - including different ones for different sports. Unlike some poor sod having to make do with an NHS prosthesis.

Heather is very lucky to still have her knee. I was watching a programme on amputees recently and I notice how dreadfully difficult it was for the people who had their legs amputated above the knee to walk properly afterwards. I was expecting Heather Mills to appear at any moment banging on and on about being an amputee but thankfully she was not asked to contribute to the programme. I have never known anyone to make so much money and publicity from a dreadful accident. I wonder if she would have remained a topless model with little success (although we were told by the papers at the time she was a Top Fashion Model) if she had never been hit by that police motorbike!! Amazing in an odd way you have to admire her for milking it for all it was worth°°°!!!!!!!!

Heather's leg must cost an absolute fortune. No wonder you cannot tell the difference between them. Unfortunately last night we all saw what the poor people get on the National Health and pretty it was not!!! We do not all have millions in the Bank.

Oh Boy you do not like her!!!! LOL Actually EVERYTHING you have said is TRUE. Never mind the Judge in the divorce case saying that she could not produce one piece of evidence of EVER having donated any sums of money to charity. No tax records could be found, apparently. Her insistance to the media that she made her own money and was not financially dependant on Paul (during her marriage) and yet she had no income for two of the last years of her marriage. It seems she is only interested in charity when she can promote herself!! What is her charity now, by the way??? Still dogs and cats and do not drink MILK??? Actually, Heather was NOT a Veggie before she hooked up with Paul McCartney as her former fiance (who she dumped just before the wedding day to run off with Paul!!!) told the world in a newspaper article.!!! Rather a fan of steak was our Heather!!!

Interesting to hear from someone who has been inspired by Heather. It must be awful to live with constant pain.

Perhaps it was so successful they had 'em all dug up.

Isn't there a law against eating Vegans?
What do they taste like? - presumably not chicken.

You may not remember it, but it most definitely happened. Linda got an awful lot of flack.
However, Linda, at the time, had no bandwagon to jump on - she was a pioneer.
The situation with Heather is rather different.Heather has stolen Linda`s idea of running an animal-free food-company. She has used her ex`s money to buy an already existing company. What, an independent, gutsy, inspiring woman she is!

I can see why people see Heather is Inspiring because of her determination over her leg. However she herself is not a nice person and has come across in the past as being a bit delusional.

As people have said she is lucky that she still has her knee as this makes a differance.

For me this man is more of an Inspiration to amputees than Heather Mills.

Hmmm...no offence, but I see a number of similarities between Douglas Bader and Heather Mills. Both used their money to give themselves a better chance of leading a 'normal life' - although neither were exactly normal citizens prior to their injuries. Both used their disability to gain extra attention. Both are primarily famous not for their job skills, but for the fact they executed these skills while disabled.

The 'war hero' tag might make it more acceptable to see Bader as an inspiration, but I don't see a lot of difference between the foundations of his attitude and those of Heather Mills' attitude.

And it was and is this attitude to overcome disability and lead a normal life which is inspiring. Whether posters like or loathe the people concerned the one thing to be admired is their gutsy and positive attitude. And for all those who like making cheap comments - just try and imagine yourself in the place of Bader or Mills or anyone who has mobility problems for whatever reason. Would you be like Coleen Nolan and whinge and wail about how difficult everything is or would you think "I'm not going to let this beat me" and just get on with it just as Heather has - not only has she got on with it - she is a much better skater than some of the other celebs. I don't like her personally but I have to take my hat off to her.
