Well after a day with the Ipod touch I've got some positives and negatives:
Positives:
*Big screen.
*The Safari web browser is quick.
*Music quality is the best I've heard on any portable device.
*Looks good for watching Movies.
*Internet radio apps very good.
*The mainstream support from it is excellent.
*Games are very good graphic wise.
*Does everything a phone does almost other than call.
*Itunes store is big.
*Very responsive screen probably *the best out there*.
*Facebook app very good.
*Good build quality.
*It's very easy to use, good menus.
*You can spend hours using it and not get bored.
Neutrals:
*Ads on some of the free apps. Not sure what to make of this good as it makes them free, bad as it's all crap.
*Some BBC TV shows I like were not in the Itunes store like 'Still Game'.
*TV Catch up was good but could be better quality in time, perhaps HD and more channels.
*The device gets lots of finger prints.
Negatives:
*Itunes is slow and not simple to use at first.
*Lack of flash support.
*The browser seems limited to me, no save pages, graphics that I'd expect to see on a device like it.
*The music player is surprisingly limited I'd get more added extras in a walkman.
*Lack of volume, pause keys on the device it's self. Again a walkman or walkman phone is not like this.
*The zoom on the browser has a mind of it's own. Some pages load the desktop site and not the mobile.
*Apple limit what you can put on the phone, alot of pointless apps, repeated apps.
So as you can see I'm not a fan of Apple nor do i think it's crap. It's a very good device but glad I kept my W995 walkman mobile phone as it's the best of both worlds. Still alot puts me off buying an Iphone. I'd probably be more interested to see how the SE Satio compares once it comes down in price. But for just under £150 for an Ipod touch is a good price and does what most modern devices should.
The major thing is Ipod's/phones have set the modern day standard like Walkman in the 80's. That was a big draw buying it everybody talks about an Ipod and anything else is playing catch up. I think if you want a camera phone forget it buy a Satio with a similar idea. If you don't want an Iphone and want to sample a bit of Apple and the apps the touch is good.
The speed you can browse web pages is very good but I'd be interested in a more advanced browser like Opera or Windows if anybody knows? I hope Apple make the next Iphone with flash and open it up a little like other phones. The device has it's big pluses but some negatives where other devices win. However other devices are not "Ipods/Iphones". So you have to get one of these!
Hope that helps anybody deciding to get one or not.
