Don't Stop Believin' - Journey>Everyone
Spider Rico

Seriously, I'm getting tired of hearing this song butchered recently. Joe, 'Glee', I even heard a dance remix of it yesterday If you want to hear a good version of it, why not buy 2008's Revelation and listen to the re recording of it, sung by new singer Arnel Pineda? Most of you won't do that because you've never heard of the album OR Arnel Pineda Ever since that Sopranos episode, it seems everyone has been jumping on the Don't Stop Believin' bandwagon, and I'm tired of it. It's a classic, and has been so since it's release in 1981 - 29 years ago

No.

That is all.

To be honest I personally think the song is an over rated piece of crap regardless of who is singing it.

You don't think the original is better than Joe's version, the 'Glee' version or the dance remix?

I'm absolutely speechless.

Bandwagon? I first heard the song 10 or 11 years ago when I picked up the guitar for the first time.

And so what if people have only just heard it, new fans more the better.

Oh I am so sorry that I had never heard of the song 29 years ago. I realise that not actually having been born then is no excuse but I hope you will find it in your heart to forgive me for my bandwagon jumping.

The Glee version is my favourite.

And that is a crime? Here we go again with music snobbery
For the record, I loved it when it first came out (I was about 21 and into groups like Genesis, Styx and REO Speedwagon as well as all the new romantic, indie, punk, reaggea & ska stuff that was out at the time) and then I forgot about it for years until I heard another Journey song that wasnt a single a few years ago and then came across a best of cd.
Now I dont know what Revelation is, never watched the Sopranos and have never heard of Arnel Pineda (until I googled him just now and remember the story!!) and SO WHAT! We cant all know everything about everything and like everything first time round.
It is a classic song and at the moment I like most version I hear.
Now how about someone does a cover of Come Sail Away by Styx

I realise I wasn't very clear in my post, but I was saying no to the part that suggested I buy something. I don't want to buy anything.

Of course I like the original, but I also like the Glee version, and Joe's version, I have no preference.

I agree with the OP. Only Steve Perry can sing this song as it was written to be sung. Sure, Joe made a good enough job of it....he certainly didn't murder it. However, IMO...no-one touches Journey on this.

Nobody is better than Steve Perry and Journey when it comes to performing Don't Stop Believing. It's an iconic rock anthem and Joe turned it into some horrible Disney version that wouldn't sound out of place on the bonus tracks for a High School Musical CD (and those dancers that popped up during the performance were tacky beyond belief, you could just hear Friedman saying "we HAVE to have some dancers in the background for the hell of it!").

I agree In fact, thank you for mentioning that. I'm going to post it so people can see what a lovely story it is It puts a lot of the X Factor/BGT stories to shame. Enjoy

He's not Steve Perry, but who the f*ck cares! Nobody is.

He is damn good though and the rest of the band seem to love him.

"Don't stop believin" by 'Journey' is definitely a classic. No-one except that brilliant band can do it justice.

Good lord we get this with every single song that is covered. "You can't touch a classic"

Well actually you can. And people have done so. If it introduces a new generation to the original then what's the problem? People get way too overprotective.

Literally as I read this, my iPod, which is on shuffle, played Rage Against the Machine's cover of 'Renegades of Funk', and I was just thinking about how I preferred it to the original. Double spooky considering RATM's recent connection to XF...
