I think it also shows Heather defining the relationships she has with these characters. They are acquaintances of hers and therefore she wouldn't want to be too impersonal by using their christian names. It wouldn't surprise me if Heather also did it to people she feels are superior to her.

In answer to your question, I'm sure that Dot does it or used to with people she felt were her superior.

true I think it is nice ... and it is true it defines her character and in one way shows how she was mistreated growing up and made to show respect constantly to her mother.... and in a way not have enough confidence to move away from that..... kinda shows her child side....and vunerablity.... as well as the polite factor.

Yes real shame that thing happened with George / Darren. I was hoping that guy from the club was the dad and he would come back into her life. Would be nice to show her in a proper relationship with a guy as well.

I'd just about forgotten Eddie. After going for so long without any action and then to pull twice in one night... Heather must have had enormous faith in that yoghurt pot lid. Either that or it was more than a psychological thing and the lid really did have mystic powers of sexual attraction. It's a wonder people aren't jumping each other in the chilled food aisles of supermarkets across the nation.

The OP made me think of Todd when he was out with Whitney the other week and saw Darren sleeping on the bench. 'Mr Miller!'

Since I don't remember Heather ever having much to do with Darren before the night at the club, it makes me wonder if she addressed him in the same way and that's what sent him weak at the knees. Weak somewhere, anyway...

It's all very Jane Austen to me! Mr this and Miss that even if they'd known them 20 years I used to address all elders and Mr, Mrs and Miss when I was a kid it was a sign of respect rather than subservience. My best friends parents were Auntie and Uncle - and still are! Nowadays my kids friends all call me by my first name, how times have changed

But that part I've highlighted made me laugh! The thought of Darren's head being turned not by the alcohol they'd consumed between them but my Heather calling him Mr Miller Maybe him and Libby now act out Mr Darcy and Miss Bennett from Pride and Prejudice to get them going

Heather is a nice woman.
I agree. Although at times she gets on my wick, she is sadly much maligned but is at heart a good woman. Look at her conscience over this Darren business, she felt guilty and genuinely didn't want Libby to find out. Even when Libby confronted her she never got nasty like some women would have done, she sat there and took Libby's justifiable anger and was really upset by it all. What happened between her and Darren was a genuine mistake.

I just wish she'd stand up for herself a bit more.

Seems a bit subservient. She awards too much respect to people who don't deserve it and subsequently elevates them to superiority. She needs to see others as her equal in order to grow as a person and gain confidence.

It reminds me of Edna in Emmerdale. Tom was always Mr. King and the others were Mr. Jimmy, Mr. Carl and Mr. Matthew.

LOL - now it all makes perfect sense... he got the respect he so yearns from everyone else!!

Agreed about the respect thing.... even now I call people mr and mrs... if they are a generation above me.... and at the risk of sounding like a grumpy old person... I was just saying the other day how I think it is rude when young kids call their friends parents by their first name......it just sounds disrespectful..... and confuses the line between adults and kids. But that is just my opinion
