Is there any cat litter (available in the UK), which can be flushed down the toilet?

I know such a thing exists in the US - But I've never seen an equivalent in ASDA.

Also, is there any cat litter which can be put in a 'green' recycling bin (made out of natural substances)?

I am looking to find a long-term solution if possible, as we don't have a regular rubbish bin - we just leave black bags outside our door on rubbish day - and someone comes and picks them up, and they tend to be very heavy and of great number because I bin so much cat litter

I use paper litter from Waitrose - it's not on their website though so I cannot check if it suitable for recycling. I am pretty sure it's biodegradable though....

I don't throw the whole lot down the loo, but I do put some down (I scoop the tray clean of 'stuff' daily) and inevitably some of the litter goes down the pan along with any cat waste!!

Biocatlet is apparently the most ecological.

Have you checked the council website to see what they say about putting cat litter in with green recycling? Many councils will not allow it, whatever the litter is made of (ours won't).

I found the weight of rubbish bags was greatly reduced by using a clumping litter (I use World's Best) - when I used non-clumping Catsan I could barely lift the rubbish bags.

Does anyone bury it any more ? We used to bury our cat litter in the garden and grew the best tomatoes and courgettes I have ever eaten !

Wow, have you seen the number of views to this post!

I'm guessing not many of us like that trek to the bin with the cat litter tray!!!

I'm surprised at that. A lot of gardeners don't like cats as they say that when they bury their bodily waste it kills their plants

Yes there is such a thing and it's brilliant stuff but rather expensive.

It's called "The World's Best Cat Litter" - and it is.

Totally flushable, biodegradable, clumps really well and lasts ages. You just take out the weed on bit and flush it down the loo. I get it for both my cats.

Flushable cat litter. Does such a thing exist. GOSH!

However I have a very large litter tray which 3 cats use. I think I would be flushing all day

Luckily what with all the recycling we have to do these days my normal bin has plenty of space so doesn't get too heavy.

We also use the Oko Cat's Best litter for our 4 cats. It is totally flushable and compostable, great stuff!

You can get the small bags from Pets at Home, or the huge sack from Zooplus with free postage

Compostable too! What's it made of. Also with 4 cats how do you find the odour? Does it clump (i.e, can you get the wee out if you scoop)?

The "World's Best Cat litter" is compostable (It's actually made from Wheat).

it's very good for odour and you can take out the wee in clumps and flush them away down the loo.
There is also a specially strong variety in a green bag for households with more than one cat.

I'm sure this question has been asked before and I read somewhere that chicken feed is a cheaper alternative to World's Best and is basically the same thing.

Where would you get it from though? And would it clump?

I mentioned earlier in the thread that I use World's Best, and yes it is good (it's made of corn btw, not wheat). But it is not a miracle product, if they deposit something stinky it still stinks! I don't flush it as I don't want to run upstairs to flush used litter, whereas the outside bin is only a few feet away. It's very highly clumping so very little waste. I use both types, not sure if I can see much difference between them.

I don't compost it as the compost bin is at the end of a cold dark garden. But you should only compost the wee-clumps anyway, as poo from meat-eating animals should not be composted due to pathogens.

All the Pathogens are on a Police register down our estate!

It is very good stuff, but if one of them does a stinker, it's still a stinker!

We keep our litter trays in the bathroom so it's easy to flush it straight down the loo. It clumps beautifully as well.

I'm not sure if it clumps but you can get it from agricultural/market garden suppliers online, just type in chicken feed or chick feed in google.

There's more about it on www.thecatsite.com as that's where I saw the discussion (about a year ago now) / thread.

That's not a bad site for cat lovers although most participants appear to be American so not all is relevant but nonetheless quite helpful.

Ok, logged on did a search for you, here's the actual thread discussing it... http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...ght=chick+feed

Now aren't I nice

This is apparently the only flushable litter in the UK that is water board approved according to my local pet shop.

Got to say its very good and clumps really well and it also lasts longer than most.

I've never tried to flush cat poo The litter never goes down and you end up with a loo full of cat litter.

Wow, when I read *flushable* and *cat litter* in the same title, I had to check it out. I'll have to try out some of these products. Thanks for the info! =^..^=
