Who listens to The Lightning Seeds?

I really love The Lightning Seeds. This is a group I've only recently discovered properly. I have always been 'aware' of them as a group, but never properly listened to their music until the last 5 years or so

I bought their Greatest Hits CD some time ago called 'Like You Do' which is apprently a compilation of their hits from 1997 so is pretty old and doesn't include their more recent songs.

One Lightning Seeds song I've recently discovered and which I absolutely love is one of their early songs called 'Joy'. Has anyone else heard this track? I love it and has a definate OMD-style sound about it. I think this track was made in 1989

Other big Lightning Seeds songs for me include Sense, Sugar Coated Iceberg and All I Want, although I love most of their material from the 90's in particular.

I used to love Lightning Seeds. Cloudcuckooland and Sense are both really good pop albums and Jollification and Dizzy Heights are amazing. I lost interest in them after Tilt (but I loved Life's Too Short) and haven't heard the Four Winds album but I gather it's less pop than the previous albums.

Favourite songs are All I Want, Blowing Bubbles, Sense, Lucky You, Imaginary Friends, Telling Tales and Feeling Lazy.

"Pure" was their classic... good singles band back in the 90s, I always enjoyed their releases. "Jollification" is the only album I truly loved, it still sounds great. Broudie's been around since the 70s of course, first in the scouse band Big In Japan with Holly Johnson & Bill Drummond, then went on to produce the Bunnymen. A talented chap.

My Dad used to be into them, he got Jollification on tape for his birthday in 1995 and we used to listen to it in the car all the time, so it always reminds me of being little

Surely Three Lions is their classic! That and Life of Riley, Lucky You, Pure, What If...

I have the two big albums somewhere, the singles were definitely the standout tracks

Joy is one of my favourite tracks too, still dont understand how this missed the top 100 upon release as a single. Also love Pure, Bound in a Nutshell, Sense and Change.

Pure is still the ultimate LS classic for me. Loved it the minute I heard it all those years ago. Marvellous, Sense Perfect and Change are others I've always loved-what is it with the one-word titles?

Ian Broadie's featured on Sky Arts excellent Sonbook show this Friday at 8.

Jollification one of my favourite albums of the 90's, in reply to the OP who got the Best Of I would recommend all of the albums through the 90's (maybe not Tilt), the album track quality is right up there with the singles.

And after Ian Broudie ditched the Lightning Seeds "brand" for a while he did come back with a pretty good single last year in "Ghosts"

All their albums are worth a listen but Jollification is their best in my opinion and one of my all time top 10 albums. Not a filler on it

I've not long bought Jollification on CD and absolutely love it. I've not heard any of their other albums yet though.

I've really enjoyed listening to their Greatest Hits album though, every song on that I really like. Ian Broudie is quite a genius

Will have to give 'Ghosts' a listen

I have an mp3 somewhere of the four bigs hits from Jollification mixed in with old football commentary, it's called the mix'n'match and it's awesome.

Anyone else heard it?

BTW this thread has caused me to go and buy the greatest hits cd!
