As discovered by anthony david - and discussed in a thread in the Freeview forum, it has been confirmed there is a new transmitter array for G_MAN now in use. Strength and signal quality are now very similar to L_MAN. I would expect the coverage area is significantly improved and pretty close to what was predicted in the original Ofcom documents. There'll be a few people finding some extra channels next time they retune, or on new TVs bought for Christmas or in the sales.

And I can confirm that it's loud and clear here in central Manchester, previously it
was only occasionally viewable. |

I'm near St Helens, well outside of the coverage area, but can just about pick it up now by doing a manual scan of channel 57.
The signal quality registers as 0 but strength is around 40%, it breaks up but isn't terrible. |
