Dannii Minogue sues The Daily Mail over pregnancy rumours

Quote:
“ Australian pop star Dannii Minogue is taking legal action against a British tabloid after they falsely reported that she is pregnant.

Reports that the singer was expecting her first child with her rugby player boyfriend Kris Smith sparked after the couple was spotted leaving a hospital in Melbourne, Australia.

Britain's Daily Mail newspaper alleged Minogue was there to have a medical exam which identifies health risks in unborn babies, such as Down's syndrome.

Minogue's agent Melissa Le Gear insists the speculation is completely inaccurate, adding: "Reports that said she was seen in hospital having a particular type of test are absolutely untrue".

A spokesperson for Minogue confirmed that the star has contacted her lawyers over the false report.

"Dannii is not 12 weeks pregnant and has not had a 12 week scan. As you're no doubt aware PCC (Press Complaints Commission) rules say you cannot report pregnancy until a woman has had a 12 week scan. Dannii is taking full PCC action against the newspaper today who have reported the story," said the spokesperson.”

So... does this mean she is pregnant, or at least trying?

None of these articles actually say that she isn't pregnant, so she could be.

I thought it was The Mirror that leaked it too?

Because it isn't true, and because some fantatics are spreading this story all over the world, latest in Dubai.

And yes, this story is incorrect as it was Daily Mirror who first printed it.

It serves tabloids right if they get sued for releasing false information. These tabloids should make sure what they release is fact, before printing.

Well, who knows but as an example, imagine if she had been pregnant and was at the hospital to have tests on whether there were problems with the baby and it transpired that she lost the pregnancy, and then the papers are full of stories about her being pregnant, that would be pretty upsetting so I could see why she would want to hit out against the papers.

Not saying this is what happened, just demonstrating how there can be perfectly valid reasons why Dannii might take action (and would explain the wording from her agent, which I think contains clues - it doesn't say she is not pregnant, just she is not 12 weeks pregnant and not had a 12 week scan, she could have had an early scan though)

The only thing this all tells me is that at the moment, it's a bad idea to suggest that Dannii is pregnant, cos if you do, her 'people' wont be happy.

It may be best to just leave this and watch what happens.

assuming she is offered a contract and accepts.

I won't be betting on that one.

Aw! I thought the news of her pregnancy was a lovely ending to the year for Dannii, they even quoted how happy she was! Well at least she'll be back next year

I think she is probably pre-12 weeks.

Its never been denied that she is pregnant, just that she wasn't having her 12 week scan.

If she is before 12 weeks and hasn't told her family and friends, I can understand why she is very pissed and newspapers are not supposed to report pregnancies that early for good reason.

Dannii will be a great mum if she one day decides she would like to have a baby.
She has a very busy year a head of her so I'm looking forward to see her back in the game soon.

She might not be pregnant but she's still the same old attention whore.

She's probably doing this because the paper refused to print any of her media whoring quotes being slashed over its newspaper. What a lame excuse to sue a newspaper for shows what a sensitive person she is.

Why shouldn't she be able to announce when she wants to? Alot of women like to keep it quiet until they are in the second trimester. Charlotte Church sucessfully sued a newspaper for the same thing.

You'll understand when the gutter press start printing potentially hurtful lies about your private life.

She is not sensitive.

A friend of mine was seen going into a hospital by one of her partner's friends and they were confronted in the pub and had to tell everyone. Then at the 12 week scan they found out they had lost the baby.

Every woman has the right to keep their pregnancy to themselves until the 12 week scan, or for as long as they choose.

Most women don't tell extended family and friends until after 12 weeks.

This sounds very very strange to me.
There's no bump or anything that would be appearing at a 3 moths pregnancy.

I just hope it's not like when they announced she and Kris had split up which wasn't true.

But if true, then congrats to her

There is no bump at three months, or at least not necessarily. Since Dannii and Kris have both tweeted it, as has Kylie (and her twitter is verified) I'm taking it as the truth.

Congrats to them!

There are pictures of her with a slight bump - that is what started the rumours on a US gossip site.

Well there are two different stories now.
Her agent and Manager Melissa Le Gear and lawyers who are removing these stories and the British rep from her XF contract who are saying it's true.
I hope Dannii will say something not typing but actually saying it, to stop this confusion.
