not much different to the territory Friendly Fires claimed in 2008 and Klaxons claimed in 2007 but the only thing is Klaxons and Friendly Fires done it better, However its a good album but I kind of wanted more...... reckon they'll be quite big this year tho.

8/10

Its a good album in my opinion. It's a lot more safer than the Klaxons debut album and not as great as Friendly Fires, who had several pop friendly tunes on theirs. But it feels like they have built on the template laid down by the Klaxons a few years ago. I think it sounds very new orderish which is a good thing, especially if they can deliver something as half as good as shellshock, crystal, blue monday. I just think they need to be a bit more edgier in terms of their sound and they'll hit the nail on the head but a stellar effort for a debut album.

No mention of Bloc Party eh? Seeing as 'Counterpoint' is rather similar to 'Here We Are'.
The general template to my ears seems to be Friendly Fires by way of New Order, Delphic have the benefit of catchy tunes even if they don't surpass the two bands mentioned.

yea i was gonna say Bloc Party especially on the song "This Momentary" Delphic have probably been influenced by them. They've been on tour with them aswell so figures.

Yes and a good example of when not to rubbish a band, just because they are "hyped up" on a list chosen by music industry big wigs. Your obviously a big fan considering the username. I am too as it goes, well not a big fan but I do like what they do.

In 2004/2005 songs weren't that easy to get hold of.. I was also younger and didn't have a grasp on the "industry/media" side of music so I happened to come across Bloc Party by chance. I had no time to question the hype because as far as I knew there was none.

However if a band is forced down my throat then there's every chance that I'm gonna hate them but theres also every chance I'll like them, i just happen to not like Ellie Goulding at the moment however i liked Florence + The Machine who were pretty much everywhere last year... its 50/50 really, some hype I think is deserved, some I don't. It's a matter of opinion.

Now you see this is the trap that we all have to try and not fall into. The natural reaction with a list like "The Sound of..." is to go, "No. I won't be told what I'm going to like". But it's not that really, it's merely a list of predicted success stories for the forthcoming year. Those highest on the list get the biggest pushes and record companies/radio etc, so that predicted success becomes a reality.

I try to forget these artists are being "tipped" for big things and judge them on what they do, the music. I will admit to being a bit unsure about Ellie, Marina and some of the others I've heard on that list. But I don't think I've heard enough to forge a strong opinion on any of them.

I've got no time for this type of banal indie dance radio friendly (with perhaps the odd non dancable track) pop myself.Far too many of them & most of them far too plagaristic - sorry about the generalisation.

I was trying to avoid the obvious comeback comments.I like some Indie rock.I do not generally like bands who seem to compromise their sound by being 'disco' friendly though.

Listening to NME radio at the moment - 90% of the music is of the variety I describe - so boring to my ears / so samey.
Now switching off NME radio feed - had enough of it.
