How to leave my Humax on standby.
I like to catch the early morning newspaper reviews on Sky's newschannel. There is one at about 6.40am and another an hour later at 7.40am. Before I retire for the night, I switch the Humax 9200T to the Sky channel before switching it off by the remote control. In the morning I use the remote to switch it back on. Until recently, if I woke up too late to catch the 6.40 review live, I could always rewind back to the start of the review. Suddenly, instead of Sky appearing onscreen with a lengthy period of elapsed time available (through which I could rewind), the programme loads up with no rewind time available. I realise, if after I have gone to bed, the Humax is set to record on a different channel to Sky it will obviously still be on that channel next morning, and no rewind will be possible on Sky, but in the instance to which I refer, the Humax remains on the Sky channel uninterupted. Can anyone suggest how I can restore the rewind time, please.

I'd have thought that the timer record overrides everything. Your question ight be better asked on the dedicated Humax forum...
Home > Forums > Media and Digital TV Forums > Terrestrial > Personal Video Recorders > Humax In the meantime have you though about setting up a recording event for every morning to catch the Sky channel? |

the humax won't be recording the channel while it is on standby mode.
there is a setting in the menu for it to automatically switch its self on, say at 6.35. you would have to remember to leave the box on sky news though. or, as suggested, set a scheduled recording every morning to catch the newspaper review? (this is based on my 9200T. I presume similar options are available on other models) |

That would be the normal and obvious way to do things.

I can (sort of) understand that the OP would expect to have an amount of time stored in the buffer in the way that Sky+ (and +HD) do. This has saved my bacon with SHMBO more than one!
However, for Live Pause/Instant Rewind to work, doesn't the box have to ON as opposed to standby - I'm sure this is the case with Sky. rgds, Scorp |

That makes me wonder if the OP was making use of a bug in the Humax Freeview+ firmware which stopped it going into proper standby and that this was one of the things fixed by the recent firmware update?

Such seems to be the way of todays computers and other electronic marvels which use logic circuits. I'm surprised that nobody else, apart from myself seems to wonder why this is so. |

Yes, PVRs are like computers in that the do sometimes display unusual characteristics, - I know, i have friends with TopupTV boxes!
However, I still would not expect Instant Rewind to work when in standby, unlike timed recordings which work with the box both on and off. I will test. Scorp |

So maybe this is what you have experienced as if these boxes had a full EPG then I see no reason why there wouldnt also be a buffer too. |

For any who subscribed to my original query and are in the least bit interested in what the answer may be, I think I may have answered my own question, if the Humax is turned off at the remote control before midnight, then there is no rewind available on switch-on next morning. If however, the Humax is switched off by the remote after midnight, then there is a period available for rewinding which may be as long as a couple of hours. This period progresses through the night. So by, say 7am, one could rewind back to about 5am. In other words, midnight is the deadline.
I would expect any PVR with Instand Rewind enabled to be constantly buffering the 'viewing' channel upto the amount chosen in 'settings' - in my HD box I use 60 mins. This buffer rolls along with time so that at 5am (say) I could rewind to aprox 4am. AFAIK the only thing that clears the buffer is a change of channel, I can't think of anything that happens at midnight (change of day?) to clear it. Sounds like this may be specific to the Humax and could be linked to an overnight updating process? Rgds, Scorp |
