Children, RTV is destroying our lives. We sit glued to the TV watching these people do stuff, and while your glued there, beliving you have a choice in the world. Your sold the lifestyle that the media feel you should, buy this car, you'll look cool. Wash your hair with this stuff its great.....!!!!

Is it cheap disposable TV, thats easy to make and keeps the masses happy.....

Of course we don't "need" reality TV, but then we don't "need" soaps, magazines, fashionable clothes, cinemas, etc. etc. I could go on an on. Everybody has choices, if you want to watch, then watch, nobody is forcing you to sit there and nobody is going to tell reality addicts that they should not watch. How can reality Tv be selling me a lifestyle, I buy what I need and can afford, not what television dictates to me. Do not tar everyone with the same brush

i like to watch reality tv for a number of reasons
The first is i actually enjoy watching people in an enviroment were they know that depending on the way they act the public will either love or hate them.

reasons why it is really interesting watching peoples charectors stay the same or change and who is playing a game.

also years ago to be famous you had to be a royal slept with a royal or be a pop star lol now anyone can have a go. Look at jade although i often mock her and i do think she makes a fool of herself ,jade has become famous and rich, its interesting watching how people change once they get the celeb tag and i for one love reading about it lol !!!!!!!

Do we need reality TV??

I think there are many reason why we do:

There is the voyeuristic element that most people find compulsive.

There is school of thought that says people sub-consciously identify with certain characters thus enabling them to imagine what they would do in certain situations.

Conversely people also enjoy demonising characters and so are able to really put the boot in without ever having to confront anyone.

We can in fact be, IMO, almost like the crowd at the Gladiatoral Arena, we have the power of the 'thumbs up' or 'thumbs down'.

So, like sport, we do find reality tv an outlet for our competetive spirits. We can choose our champion and get behind them, without having to get actively involved, and we have the luxury of turning off the tv and walking away if it suits us.

There are probably hundreds of other reasons, but even if there aren't

if people want to watch it,no problem.i just wish the networks would create a seperate free-to-air channel(maybe 'Reality TV 2'?) for these programmes and stop clogging up C4,Five and ITV2 with them.

But everyone has a remote control or a change channel button.

Difficult to see why its worse than 40-20 year old soaps, Parkinson with the interviewees from 1990 again, innumerable gardening, property, DIY and antiques shows, educational programmes that repeat eachother and repeats of childrens TV from the 60s.

youve missed the point.i like ITV2 ,for example ,because it repeats emmerdale and corrie if ive had to work late.when 'im a celebrity'was on you could only see the ITV soaps repeated at the weekend,when they normally are on in the week.

I didnt realise they didnt have the soap repeats on thats BAD
