Bought a Humax Foxsat HDR to escape the monthly fees from Sky for Sky +

Used the system for 2 weeks and will be returning to Sky asap.

We have had so many failures in 2 weeks it is unbelievable.

We have had programs record and then only play back the last 4 or 5 minutes.

We have programs record then stop 30 minutes before the end.

We have had failed recordings.

The cost of £5 a week now seems a low cost for a reliable
easy to use system we had enjoyed for several years

This is not the case for the majoirty of users. It's either a dodgy box or user error. I had similar issues at first. In my case I was messing things by....

1) Unplugging the HUMAX. If you do this you need to bring it out of standby to 'conscious' when you plug it back in so it can find its bearings (so to speak)

2) Trying to set up recordings within 15 minutes of it starting.

3) Being on the wrong channel when a scheduled program started (and having only one tuner input)

and some other issues, mainly sorted by a good read of the manual.

Plus, there are plenty of other posts in this forum addressing the kind of issues you have. Having read them I am having far fewer, if any, missed recordings.

Youv'e obviously got a dodgy box, get it exchange for a new one. Youv'e just been unlucky.

I was unlucky with 3 $ky plus boxes before moving to freesat.

Neither systems are without their troubles.

This isn't the norm. I've had almost no problems with either box. I've seen numerous tales of woe for Sky boxes. They have more boxes than Freesat but I don't think that can explain how some people have had to have box after box replaced.

I bought my box as soon as the very 1st ones became available in 2008 (bearing in mind its now 2010).

I've had one box failure - psu after 3 months - which is extremely rare and was replaced with a new box immediately.

No problems with the 2nd box and I've only ever experienced 4 failed recordings across both boxes. Considering I now have a 1Tb drive 64% full - the equivolent of 2 full standard drives, you can begin to see what a heavy user I am. I'd say on average I record probably 2-3 programmes a day every single day.

I find the Humax very reliable if slightly lacking in some seemingly promised features.

Mine was new November 2008. It's been a dream. Modified to move internal HDD to a slot in external esata caddy . Caddy at the monent has a 1TB drive in it but can slot in the original drive. Second slot in caddy with 1TB HDD connected to rear usb port (since V12 allowed replay of enc recordings) . This drive formatted by hdr so two drives are interchangeable. Esata drive 60% full and external 55% full so I guess I qualify as a heavy user

OP must have a duff unit
