Do you throw away the thick end crusts from bread?
We always do. They all go in the bin. If you don't do you just eat them as toast or what? You can buy Kingsmill bread without crusts now I see so may try that next week. We don't eat a lot of bread, just one loaf a week, mainly for my daughter's sandwiches for school.

Do you mean the two end slices rather than the crust around each individual slice?
I eat the crusts on each slice but usually throw the two end bits out for the birds. ETA: Unless it's a plain loaf. I love the end slices then. |

Sorry I mean the two big thick end slices. We leave the crusts on each slice for toast but not for sandwiches.

The knobbies. Sometimes use them, sometimes chuck them out for the birds.

We used to save them to make bread pudding or bread & butter pudding. We now live on the Greek island of Rhodes . Its difficult to buy English type bread.

I eat Scottish plain bread and the end slices are about an inch thick. I always have them with soup.

They are still bread. There is nothing wrong with them apart from being slightly thicker slices than the rest of the loaf and possible a bit denser in texture.
I use them for toast and sarnies. They make great deep filled sarnies. Much better at holding the filling than normal slices. |

Perhaps bread manufacturers are missing a trick then, they could sell loaves without the 2 nobbies on to us that aren't that bothered about them, then collect all the spare nobbies up to make loafs of nobbies.

Seconded. The end crusts are the best part of the loaf, especially good for toasting. What is it about them that people object to?

Mmm, the end crusts are the best for toast, they go nice and chewy! We used to fight over them when I lived at home as all loved them, now I live on my own and very rarely buy bread, but when I do I look forward to the crusts
On proper bakery bread the ends are nicest not toasted but with lashings of butter on. I want bread now.

For a sandwich a normal slice of bread is best, but for toast the crusts/end slices are definitely the best, especially if the bread is thick!
Now I fancy some toast

The end slice on plain bread makes the best toast EVER!!! The end slice on pan bread I'm not too keen on, yet on a 'normal' slice I think the crust is the best part. I confuse myself sometimes.

Actually, i've just remembered that my stepmum used to open the other end of the loaf and have the crust sometimes. It was quite annoying when you really fancied it! They should really sell bags of crust ends
