How do I make it?

My Mum used to make them perfectly every time for years when I was a kid. How did she do it?

I'm talking about the dipping soldiers in kind.

Whenever I try to make them they are either over cooked and have hard yolks which is crap because you cant dip toast in it or they are undercooked which is gross and I have to cook them again in a frying pan before I can eat them.

Thanks.

Get an electric egg boiler for about £10 - perfect eggs every time.

30 seconds may not produce the ideal experience for boiled egg lovers - or your wife

- I saw a 'timer' in my local Aldi last week that involved an artificial egg you put in the pan with the real ones & it showed you when the real eggs were likely to be runny/soft/hard ..

http://uk.aldi.com/uk/html/offers/2827_12454.htm

- no idea if it works, though

Boil enough water in a pan to cover eggs, gently lower 4 large eggs into pan, bring back to boil and boil for 5 minutes. Take out immediately and cut heads off!

I could never get them right until Dame Delia taught me.
She got panned for showing how to boil an egg on one of her TV series, but her 'fool-proof' method really works:

1. Bring a pan of water to the boil.
2. Place large eggs in the water and boil for 1 minute.
3. Turn the heat off and put a lid on, then leave the eggs for precisely 6 minutes in the water.

Try it... it never fails

If it's Aldi then it's German so it HAS to work

My mother puts them in a pan of cold water, times it from when the water just starts to boil - 3 mins for soft.

Works every time for her, but I've never tried it myself.

My method is this (for a large egg)

- Bring a pan of water to the boil.
- put the egg in to boil for 6-and-a-half minutes.
- plunge into cold water for 1 minute.

The egg will then be cold enough to handle, but will be hot inside, with a lovely gooey yolk.

I will pinch that idea if you don't mind please Welsh-lad. I can't boil an egg to save me life. It's either under cooked (yucky) or too hard for dipping the soldiers. I'll give it a go tomorrow
