From DS:

N-Dubz rapper Dappy has sparked a death threat scandal after allegedly sending abusive messages to a Radio 1 listener.

According to the Daily Mail, the star targeted 22-year-old Chloe Moody on Tuesday after she sent a text message to The Chris Moyles Show to say that she did not like one of the group's songs.

The urban band were appearing as guests on Moyles's programme at the time and it is thought that Dappy, real name Dino Contostavlos, noted down Moody's phone number after spotting it on a computer screen.

It is alleged that one SMS message subsequently sent from Contostavlos to Moody read: ''Your gonna die, U sent a very bad message towards Ndubz on The Chris Moyels show yesterday Morning and for that reason u will never be left alone!! If u say sorry I will leave you alone u ****."

Moody, who claims that she received further obscene messages and phone calls, commented: "It's terrifying when anybody sends you a death threat, whether it's real or not. Somebody of a fragile mind and nervous would be worrying what they were going to do.

"His behaviour is unprofessional and I'm considering going to the police. When you put yourself in the public eye you need to be able to handle criticism. I also feel let down by Radio 1."

Contostavlos has now issued a public apology for his behaviour, while BBC executives are expected to launch an investigation into the breach of Moody's privacy.

In a statement, the hip hop star said: "I totally apologise to Chloe. I called her in the heat of the moment when I was angry, but that is no excuse for my behaviour. I'm genuinely sorry. I'd also like to send my sincerest apologies to Radio 1."

Meanwhile, a BBC spokesman commented: "We were unaware that the number had been taken from the production team's console and will take steps to ensure it can't happen again."
Seriously, what a disgusting thing to do. I hope she does go to the police because this is well out of order. Especially as the girl's right. They are rubbish.

This has really disappointed me. I love N Dubz, I like the fact that they write all their own material (whether people like it or not), they are so gracious to their fans it's unreal (I've been a witness to this at one of their gigs) and they have worked bloody hard to get where they are.

I have defended them to people that have slated and ridiculed them calling them 'chavs' etc but how silly do I feel now?

Dappy needs to learn to control his temper, accept criticism and be more professional. Lots of teenagers look up to him and they will now think this kind of behaviour is acceptable.

Still love the group and it's music, but I won't defend them quite so readily and have lost some respect for them.

I am surprised he could write a text message. He couldn't speak English properly on an interview I saw last night.

Why did the BBC waste my money on this moron?

This is absolutely disgusting. Everyone deserves to have an opinion how dare he threaten someone for disliking their music. Just filthy and no need for it.

well what do you expect really...they're not the brightest bunch are they.

none of them respond to criticism that well. I remember when La Roux slagged them off and instead of having a good insightful comeback Tulisa just says "Yea she's a **** innit"

They're also a bunch hypocrites, I remember they fronted an anti bullying/violence campaign aswell but yet some of their lyrics evoke violence seemingly just for the sake of it. When confronted about this none of them had anything remotely thought provoking to say. It's like they want to be this role model "voice of a generation" type band yet want to keep this irritating "street" appeal about them. I find it really shallow.

The acclaim has got to their heads basically and they think everyone should love them because they've "worked hard" "They're from the street" "They're real" "they're a band for our generation" etc

But really they are just a bunch of chavs who's songs are just about good enough to warrant about 1 more years hype. After that no one will really care about them anymore... So Solid Crew anyone?

In which N Dubz reveal their true colours: petty, childish bullies with no respect for anyone else. It's not even like their music is good or they have anything valid to say. They're just tragic, vacuous wannabes.

Time for the BBC to ban them completely. Who exactly needs them anyway?

Sorry if you've been taken in, but this has been on the horizon for some time.

He looks like an arrogant c*** and now he has acted like one. You think he would have done that if it was a guy? Dappy clearly thinks he can pick on women, and is above the law.

The mug could get in serious trouble, but they will pay the girl off and keep her from pressing charges. An offer of free concert tickets was rebuffed funnily enough.

I agree with this. While their music and their image isn't to my personal liking, I have respected them for being themselves and writing and producing all their own songs.

To be fair to the other 2 members, I think it's just Dappy who acts like a chav all the time and says stupid things. But I had hoped that it was just a front for the group and that he was actually a decent guy away from it all, but it seems not - he's exactly how he comes across.

Can't they just piss off into obscurity. Dappy is a complete ****** and it's embarrassing that teenagers idolise them. I'm nearly sixteen and i'm probably more intelligent, mature and wise than the three of them put together. If they make it big in America, i will have to abandon the music industry in general. And also lose respect for humanity.

Not only is the guy a moron, but he's a role model too (which is tragic in itself).

Send him to jail, we'll see how tough he is then.

I can't stand the group, but the woman who sent the text message in the first place is just as much to blame.

I agree that to instigate a text purely slagging someone off is a bit immature, but Dappy is a professional musician (apparently) and has to rise above such criticism.

Job number one: banish him from Buzzcocks. He made such an arse of himself last time it was painful. Bring back Kenzie from Blazin' Squad. He was a bit of a tit but could take a joke.

You are joking, right?

"she sent a text message to The Chris Moyles Show to say that she did not like one of the group's songs." And you think that a mere personal opinion on a particular song warrants a response of ''Your gonna die, U sent a very bad message towards Ndubz on The Chris Moyels show yesterday Morning and for that reason u will never be left alone!! If u say sorry I will leave you alone u ****."

Are you related/a friend of Dappy or are you deliberately being stupid?

Just watch R1 set them on a pedestal, increase their airplay and invite them back at every opportunity. Far from being castigated, they'll be rewarded, sadly, that's the way it works nowadays isn't it?

I love the spin in the first sentence. She used the word "vile". Don't give it out if you can't take it. This criticise but cry if it comes back at you culture makes me sick. Same as fans at football games *cough* Arsenal *cough* being offended when a player decides to react to their abuse. I actually find that refreshing, so if you expect me to display any sympathy to this woman then you are sadly mistaken.

I didn't even know who Dappy was until this story came out. So i'll go with being stupid if it means I couldn't give a shit about somebody who couldn't take what they dished out.

that's ridiculous.... TheSoulBrother as a member of this board would I be right in assuming that you like everyone else on here who is a music fan has posted messages criticizing artists and much as praising them?

Suppose an artist send one of us threats for not liking their music? You're saying they'd be justified??

There's a huge difference between criticism of music and criticism of people. If you are big enough to be throwing words like "vile" behind the safety net of a text message, don't go looking for sympathy when said person gets back at you. Thats all I am saying. Not that threats are justified, or that Dappy is some kind of model citizen - far from it. But the world would be a better place without keyboard warriors always looking to get their two pennorth in.

I'm not saying he has no right to respond, but he took the girl's number from Radio 1's computer system, breaching BBC privacy rules - which is disrespect on Dappy's part to Radio 1, who have given N-Dubz a huge amount of help, not only by playing their songs, but making them guests on Moyles' show on more than 1 occasion, giving them Live Lounge performances, and allowing them to perform at Radio 1's big weekend last year.

Not only that, but if he were to respond he could do it in a sensible manner, instead of saying things like "your gonna die", "u will never be left alone", and "If u say sorry I will leave you alone u ****." How can you try and justify that?

1. That's the BBCs problem. Nothing to do with my comments which centre around why this woman felt the need to send abusive text messages in the first place.

2. Again, please point out where I justify anything he said. This isn't a zero sum game where one party has 100% of the blame. She was wrong to send the text in the first place, and Dappy went overboard. However IMO he has every right to respond to criticism that is above and beyond constructive. His flaw was in how he responded, rather than the fact he did. I don't buy this "rise above it" BS that celebrities are supposed to adhere to for all criticism. They don't ask to be role models. They ask you to buy their records. If you dont like the music then fine, keep it moving.

Wow, I always new Dappy was a hot head but I never knew he'd go as far as threatening someone over criticism.

When I met N-Dubz they seemed pretty ok, Dappy was a bit wacky, but in a funny kind of way. That being said this is quite shocking.

Ah well, never liked their music anyway!
