ITV Meridian Recording Failures
Automan
15-01-2010
Everyday my boxes fail to record "A Touch Of Frost" on ITV3

I assume this is an error in the channels handling of program start or end signals.

Anyone else having the same issues?

Until today i was blithely happy that..
the 'Did not record' was a hiccup that only affected others.
Today i switched on five minutes late for 'Deal No deal' Ch4
{for my wife NOT me i hasten to add}
and saw the large lettering saying" Start recording"!!
I was aghast as..
The schedule is daily at the same time..
The set was in SEEMING Standby ..but came on immediately when i pressed the Power On Button
I do not use 'Power Save on standby'..

A very strange situation ..i belieeeve the others now..
that this is more than a 'No consequence Hiccup'..
It threatens the concept of my happy marriage..
as i have assured my wife that..
with Graham helpfully getting me fully operational..
We can now go ahead and cancel our SKY contract..

When i was working as an engineer .. I hated intermittent faults..
But as i got older i learnt that all too often the trite dismissal of 'Customer Error' just did not hold water.
This forum is disturbingly awash ..for knowledgable people..
with 'Missed Recordings' and I would have been in that boat today .. But..
I have not been away on more than 7 day or ANY Holiday for that matter..
and I monitor Mainspower failures on MY PC PSUs and there has not been a Millisecond outage..
.despite the high demand..
My confidence is shattered..
Any explanation of 'INDICATED Standby' BUT Immediate 'Power ON'?
Come to think of it..
The time from 'Standby' to 'Power ON' has been varying from about 15 seconds.. via 7 or 8 seconds..
to NOW almost immediate..
this does not sound right to me...is it indicative of the future?

The hdr wakes up and becomes fully booted apart from outputting video 15 mins before a recording is due to check for late changes in the schedule and watch for the programme running status to change. In this mode and during recording boot up is near instantaneous because it's already booted. If you have power saving in sby on (There's no reason not to use it unless you are feeding a second stb from tuner 1 out), you can tell because the clock comes on. If the broadcaster messes up the change of running status then recording won't start. If you have problems with a particular programme edit the start and end times in the schedule or add a manual timer using the blank entry at the end of the schedule list.

Do you have a series link set. If so looking at Frost at 10pm on Mondays over previous weeks it looks as if they are showing odd ones form different series so I would assume that you could not set a series link but would need to enter each one separately.

I have been trying to record the ones shown in the afternoons. Original 2 hour ones spilt into two episodes.

But alas they allways fail

I appreciate the Intercession on behalf of the Humax Graham and..
am persuaded to view benignly it's recent contretemps..
However ..your eloquent pleading now raises the possibility in my mind..
of my using the aforementioned output to provide an extra input to the SKY+ Box..
which we are keeping..
as the wife loves the REMOTE and it feeds the bedroom so easily..
I have not yet given Sky notice but..
will the extra input be useful when i can no longer record from the box I wonder?
Me watching in the Lounge and Janet watching another channel upstairs?

Itv are crap at getting the codeing for split events right. Best to set each one as a one off recording.

Are you saying I'm an eloquent pleader . Yes you can use the tuner 1 out to feed a 2nd tuner (some have signal level problems if the connections too long). With the foxsat on or recording though you will only have a subset of the available channels on the sky box (Same Frequency band and polarity as tuner 1 is using.) It would be a lot better to add a 3rd cable from the lnb - I imagine you will have a quad lnb). If you add an external modulator to the hdr you can send it's pictures to the bedroom as well.
