Gammon - what sauce/gravy?
Am doing meal for several people tomorrow. Have a BIG gammon joint which I am doing with a Carribbean Glaze.
That's pineapple whizzed up, zest of orange & lime and juice of each and a big piece of root ginger whizzed up. You put that over the fat, score and decorate with loads of cloves and then pour honey over. (Idea from Tesco mag )I fancied creamed potatoes but DH wants roasties. What do you think about gravy or sauce. I like parsley sauce with gammon but I've often been out and lots of people ask for gravy. I don't think it goes at all though.

Hmmm I dont like any sauce with my gammon. I think it takes something away from the glaze. I have tried it with gravy and thought it tasted just fine though.

I don't like gravy with gammon. Maybe a little cranberry or blackberry jelly.

I wouldn't put honey ginger swede with a pineapple glaze tbh. 2 contrasting sweets.
I like studs idea of a jelly. |

Usually no sauce or gravy with gammon. Done properly it's juicy enough by itself.
Mind you, a cheese sauce can be tasty. |

Parsley sauce for me all the way...it's perfect with ham!
I make it the cheats way...half pint of milk & tablespoon of cornflour. Heat in microwave until thick, then add loads of fresh chopped parsley. Delicious. |

Parsley sauce definitley.
Gammon gravy sounds revolting - imagine how salty and fatty it would be - the gammon itself is salty enough. Parsley sauce great with gammon - its subtle taste doesn't detract from the glaze you may want to put on the meat either. |

+1 for Parsley Sauce
But just as good, if not better (to me) is gammon served with pineapple and an egg or two. With juicy pineapple and runny egg you don't need a sauce. Oh yum. |

I think you can get ham stock cubes if there isn't enough liquid after cooking the joint, made up with cornflour should be fine on the potatoes/veg.
I wouldn't personally put any on my gammon though. Pineapple ring or maybe apple or cranberry sauce to accompany the gammon. |

Thanks so much for all the comments.
I am going with the Parsley Sauce for those who care to help themselves.I am keeping my fingers crossed the Carribbean glaze is a success. |

I'd do a little bit of apple sauce, or maybe a cauliflower cheese.
No to gravy! EDIT: The glaze sounds really good though

Gammon is probably the only meat I never do a sauce or gravy for because it's juicy enough with a little pineapple.
Sounds like a lovely meal, OP. ,

I like gammon with baby cabbage. Rather than boil the cabbage, saute it in butter and season with black pepper.

It was delish if I say so myself!
![]() The gammon was beautifully cooked & we had roast potatoes, red cabbage, peas, carrots and I did some mashed swede because DD loves that (and didn't do the honeyed ginger swede cubes). We started with my special beetroot soup with a swirl of fromage frais and a sprinkle of chives. Desserts were homemade Key Lime Pie and White Chocolate Cheesecake. Both of which went down very well. |

No sauce is my preference. As long as you have egg and pineapple, you don't need a thing.

I had Gammon last night (with pineapple
) and made a simple sauce from a little pineapple juice, maple syrup, water and butter. It was only about a tablespoon of sauce but worked nicely.
