By the end of this year all of the big 4 soaps will be run by men. It seems men do a better job of running a soap than woman do, there have been exceptions like Eastenders was co-created by a woman and she run the soap for four years and Bryan Kirkwood was brought in to run Hollyoaks at last minute as the GUY before him was ruining it.

It just seems that in the last year the only Exec Producer to leave on his own will was Diederick Santer. Emmerdale Anita Turner basically was axed after after only a year and Gavin Blyth was brought in and has done wonders for the soap, Coronation Street Kim Crowther it seems was axed and Phil Collinson is being brought into run the show and now today Hollyoaks with Lucy Allan after a year of running the soap seems to have been axed and now Paul Marquess is being hired to run the soap.

So why do guys seem to be able to run soaps better in general than woman?

What is also interesting is that at least 3 out of those 4 are gay, i'm not sure if Gavin Blyth is or not, but certainly Bryan Kirkwood, Phil Collinson and Paul Marquess are.

Obviously it doesn't particulary mean anything but it' just an observation.

Surely it shouldn't matter.

Though if and when a producer's own personality imprints and begins to define the direction of any mainstream programme it probably suffers for it.

It doesnt matter but its just an observation of what seems to happen i am not saying woman are incapable of running a soap brilliantly it just seems over the years more men have run the soaps better.

Paul Marquess in charge of Brookie when it was axed and also in charge of Family Affairs when that was axed. So I wouldn't count him as "better" by any stretch of the imagination

That's not strictly true, i think Phil Redmond was incharge of Brookside when it was axed.

In either case, i really don't think it was actually down to him that it was axed.

I stand corrected. I think he'd moved off to kill Family Affairs by the time Brookie was axed. He'd already started the terminal decline with the Nicki Shadwick year long rape story and the bullying one

I believe that Corrie was "Based on an Idea by Tony Warren" (Might have got his first name wrong there, not sure) - he was gay! The Producer of Crossroads....the next biggest soap - Reg Watson was also allegedly gay, and so was a later producer in the 80's. (so were persons that created music for Crossroads and EastEnders....errrrm Simon May springs to mind.)
Back to the main topic - female producers are not that good - look at what Yvon Grace did to the new Crossroads!
