I'm really looking forward to hearing a new Kate Nash album, took me a while to warm to her first one but once I did I thought it was a brilliant album.

About time we heard some new stuff from her really!

I find her extremely over-rated and the only reason she won the Brit that year was because she went to the bloody Brit school! What a farce. She had one hit and the rest flopped. Bat for Lashes, KT Tunstall and Leona Lewis were also nominated that year. The Brit awards lost what little credibility they had left AFAIC.

It was a shock and a utter kick to the stomach that Kate Nash thrashed those other more talented singers.

I really like Kate Nash. Her style is funky and cool.
I thought 'Made of Bricks' was a brilliant album with so many catchy songs. Loved it!

Well thanks for that snippet of information.

Leona Lewis also went to the Brit school, so that's kind of irrelevant. Anyway, just because you don't like someone doesn't mean they don't deserve an award.

Back to the OP, I'm really looking forward to the new album.

Leona was excluded because of her association with Simon Cowell and no, i don't think she deserved the award because I don't think she is a good artist and she isn't even that popular. I doubt most people will even recognise her name if you mentioned it.

I can't wait for Kate's new album- interesting to hear that she has done a new version of 'Don't You Want To Share the Guilt' for the album as really like the B-Side. Not really understanding the haters who would rather promote one of Simon Cowell's protege's who doesn't even write her own material

Not that popular? Kate Nash's first album got to no 1 and went Platinum, it certainly outsold Bat for Lashes first album (one of the other artists you mentioned.) Her singles might not have lit up the charts, but who cares when the album is selling hundreds of thousands of copies? Not everyone uses singles sales as a measure of an artists popularity.

End of the day, though, popularity of an artists, winning awards or even having to compare them to anyone else is irrelevant - plenty of people bought Kate Nash's first album and can be fans of, say, Kate Nash, Bat for Lashes and KT Tunstall and would look forward to new albums by any of them.

Kate Nash has always been one of those artists that seems to have a love or hate effect on people though.

If you're referring to Leona, then she actually does write her own material. At least Kate Nash 'haters' don't need to make up lies about her not writing her own material to have a dig.

Album went straight to #1 in the UK and went platinum and stayed in the top 100 albums for 50 weeks. That, combined with a #2 single (with the chart run being 2, 2, 3, 2, 2, 2, 4, 4, 8.....and was only kept off #1 by Umberella) which was in the top 100 singles for 34 weeks is pretty damn impressive for a newcomer. Hardly a flop. She only released two other singles and although they both peaked at #23 they still sold the album and stayed in the charts for a minimum of 10 weeks each.

Do some research before you start spouting rubbish, eh?

Agreed. Absolute farce she won a BRIT. She didn't deserve it at all.

She's had three singles and one album. The lead single and album very very succesful, and the two other singles did their job of promoting the album and charting in the top 25 at the same time.

So technically, two hits from four releases. Where is the flop?

People really don't seem to understand that anyone 'deserving' anything is absolutely subjective. You can't state it as fact.
