BT Iplate / BT Broadband Accelerator
Hi there!
I have broadband and do not have the NTE5 socket fitted. If I did have this socket as well as the above ( BT Iplate / BT Broadband Accelerator ) how much extra speed would I get, as the line is at the furthest end of the exchange? I currently get 4MB. Thank you. Brooke Bond - licenced to have tea leaves! |

the i-plate will only increase your sync speed if you have exten's of your main socket. however not having an NTE5 means that you can't get the iplate.
however, you could contact your service provider and ask them to send us out to fit an NTE5 , then order an I-plate (currently about £7ish). or.. you could just remove the wire connected to pin 3 on every socket in the house for free. this does the same as installing an I-plate. obviously if you have just the one socket, then thats the best your gonna get, providing you don't have any existing un-detected faults on your line.

Hi openreachpeep
I will contact BT Customer Services and request the NTE5 socket, and then I will purchase the BT Iplate / BT Broadband Accelerator, as I do have extension sockets. Thank you. Brooke Bond |

You can achieve EXACTLY the same effect as an iPlate (which may be negligible or nothing at all) by removing the Orange and White wire connected to connector three on the back of the faceplate of the Master Socket.
Only two wires are required by modern phones - 2 & 5. All the other are superfluous and 3 can actually affect your Braodband speed. Alternatively you may want to replace the NTE5 faceplate with a filtered faceplate. (It has two sockets, one for telephone and one for ADSL.) They negate the need for filters on the extensions, fix the connector three problem (just like an iPlate) and often give a marginal increase in speed as well. BTW4 Mb/s is a very respectable speed so you aren't aren't that far from the exchange. |
