Will Dennis survive Sharon?
Sharon has always had a predilection for the type of character that could compel her to 'morally superior' status. She had dalliances with the Mitchell, that allowed her a moral vantage point and now with Dennis, who she fell in love with, all over again, after he gave her a little tour around the darker places of his psyche. She has scrambled to the peak of 'righteous indignant' again.
She hides the truth of who she is by submerging her base desire in a lot of martyr type behaviour and by trying to convince herself that bad boys turn good under the unremitting pressure of nagging and harassment. The one man that challenged her for moral supremacy was the Fireman, who luckily got burnt to a crisp whilst trying to save a life. The fact that he was also dying spared her the experience of challenging his heroic status. If he has survived with the new kudos of resident hero, then Sharon would have left him. I guess her way has been triggered by the complicated abortion and the subsequent sterility. It has obviously taken a huge chunk of her self esteem and a substitute needed to be found. The replacement was aloofness and a keen sense of judgment, when it came to calculating another person's net 'moral' worth. Dennis may not be able to live with a woman that has the ultimate come back: Dennis: 'Why were you eyeing up that man'? Sharon: 'Well, at least I didn't kill someone'. Dennis: 'Why haven't you done the dishes'? Sharon: 'Well, at least I didn't kill someone' No, Dennis has a future with a woman that will hold the ultimate card in all emotional transactions. And relationships do not last under such an imbalance of perfection |

Dennis only wanted her in the first place because he wanted to prove she wasn't 'unattainable' and to have a piece of something his dad loved. Now of course, it's worked out even better for him because it's really pissed off daddy and forced Sharon to publicly acknowledge their relationship. Sharon is just the object of a power struggle between father and son, if Sharon does turn out to be

Course he won't, and I like the analysis, but it's much simpler than that. This is a soap opera...I have been enjoying this story line...mad though it is, because of the sexual tension between the two. The trouble is, there's no chance in soap operas of two young characters living happily ever after, is there, much less two with the odds stacked against them, like these two. No, I don't give Kat and Alfie a chance of surviving, so Dennis and Sharron have a snowballs chance in hell...we probably don't want them to, anyway. What are we going to watch them doing...having their tea together, every day. Unfortunately angst and trauma make for better telly than domestic bliss...though I would like them to have at least a couple of weeks happiness, before we go down the road of Dennis's child abuse.
It's been fun while it lasted. |

I agree willhung. It's completely ridiculous. Dennis and Sharon can't last, but for heaven's sake his character must be some way affected by what he's been through with her...there must be some character development. That storyline (sleeping with Zoe) makes it seem like the whole sharon business was just Dennis doing the rounds of the square... Kat tick, sam tick, Kate tick, the nanny tick, tracey tick, Sharon...took a while, but...tick, Zoe, tick...who's left? Dot, Pat, Janine, Kareena, Kelly, Pauline...and Vicki. Realistically, Zoe Janinne Kareena and Kelly are the only women he hasn't had, and he did all the others in less than a year...if he cracks on, he'll be working for ITV by Christmas.

I'd tick Zoe and Kelly any day of the week. And I'd tick Kareena's brains out all weekend.
Oh, I just love lists. Tick. Rudi |

lol@mayogirl, you're right, it's madness. The writers seem to think oh well he's had a bit of a hard luck, lets have him sleep with the neighbours. It just ridiculous, I think to teach them a lesson and highlight the consequences of sleeping around, there should be an STD storyline. All this bedhopping, sure someone would catch something. lol

Leslie 'I'm hamming it up because this is just a sausage factory' Granthem, will probably not review his next contract, or be asked to, and will leave. So, that puts Sharon and Little Den's relationship in the ascendency. Which does suggest longevity and not a quick fling, ended by Zoey flashing her sizeable (and still growing) assets.
This may go the distance. Or, at least undergo a couple of more thematic revolutions, before coming to rest on another 'barren womb' type storyline. The Gay idea for Dennis is a good one. He is slightly camp, as it is. Albert square is littered with the broken hearts that Dennis has left behind, which is an authentic look at the life of a serial womaniser, who struggles to find intimacy with another human being, owing to child-centric feelings of rejection and abuse. (Dear Diedre problem pages are not just for fun, y'know) |

I must admit, it's a bit annoying that they've just split up Sharon and Dennis after about a fortnight. It took forever-and-a-day for them to get together and after a few rants by Den they're done already. Tsk, tsk. I don't care if Dennis has realised he'd rather have a family than a girlfriend - I expect some damn longevity in my fictional soap relationships, thanks very much. And the Zoe thing? Nah. She's overrated in my opinion (although being that I'm a straight female I can't imagine my opinion matters much).

Gillmop. I agree. It made my 'thematic revolutions' bit, a tad fallow.
But I'm only human (I seem to have lots of song verses in my head today) I applauded little Den's spurt of maturity, which was welcomed alternative to the other things he's been spurting lately. And it was the only real way to go with the story. It was heartbreaking to see Sharon's elephantine features blubbering like a fizzing piece of Ian's fish batter. But such sorrow will be fleeting, when the dynamic of the family group becomes 'whole again' (atomic kitten?) |
