Now im not the best with PC's so any ideas what to do?

Ive got a pack of CD-R's ( 52x 80min 700mb) discs & im okish with burning.

If you have a BDP2500 or 3000 then it's simply a case of R.T.F.M.

Translation: Read The F'ing Manual

The Philips support site where you downloaded the software has a link called "Firmware Upgade Readme File". Unsurprisingly, once you read it you will know how to do the upgrade.... and it doesn't involve burning to disc.

Simple really... You're being lazy.

The web and forum sites like this are a great resource. People who you've never met are willing to share their knowledge to solve your problems. Where else in life does that happen? Don't abuse it. Have respect for those that help you and do your own homework first.

I agree with "Chris Frost". At least read the manual first, that's what it's for.

If the manual has been lost then that's different, although the originator of the query has not mentioned that.

I suppose Ray1 thinks he is being clever with his comment

No! not at all.
I am far from clever, thats why I come on this site.
It doesn't cost anything to be civil.
The originator admits he is not technical.
Wobbly obviously has his a**e in his hand about something.

With regard to your comments "Wobbly obviously has his a**e in his hand about something." and "It doesn't cost anything to be civil"

I suppose you consider that to be civil, whatever its supposed to mean

I suppose you don't read manuals either.

Do be sensible.

The OP is about to embark on a software update of his Blu-ray player. He's been online and found the software update page on the Philips site LINK to an example , but then completely ignored the clearly labeled readme file. It's not like it's hidden. Everything the guy needs to know is presented in plain English if he just bothers to look and read.

If he's too lazy (or thick) to read the "How to" instructions then I don't believe he should be attempting a firmware update in the first place. Some of you might think that's harsh but I don't.

Chris,

First of all the manual that came with my player didnt explain how to perform an update.

Secondly YES I found the website with the update & although there is a "read me file" I didnt know that this was the instructions.

I merely associated it with a file that i could "read only" and not download it which is what i was trying to do.

I stated that I was not PC technical & was merely asking for help on how to actually get the update onto a disc.

Im dissapointed that someone of your obvious above average knowledge cannot percieve that someone was unsure.

If only everyone was as perfect as you eh?

I do wish people wouldnt get so damn patronising on here.

A user was just asking a simple question therefore he expects a simple answer.

Leave the abuse to scumbag Bosses, there are far too many of them around these days.

You "merely associated it with a file that i could "read only"" So why didn't you read it?

And have you read it now as I suggested in my first reply?

I fail to see how reading something here could possibly be more instructive than the manual itself.

If you (or the OP) have an issue with the manual, and it isn't clear (perhaps it's in Janglish or Taiwanglish), then perhaps asking for an explanation on what the manual is trying to say would be more productive.

If he's too [...] (or thick) to read the "How to" instructions then I don't believe he should be attempting a firmware update in the first place. Some of you might think that's harsh but I don't.
I'd go further and suggest that he's unlikely to be able to understand what's said here, either.

I agree. If people can't answer a question in a civil and friendly way, don't bother answering.

To be fair I can see the issue from both sides here. I have taken a step back from trying to provide support on these forums on matters that I have first hand knowledge of. The reason is that I have gained that knowledge from working within the industry and having shops I have worked for invest time and money in me. As it stands at the moment the very resource we are using right now is putting the shops that have provided me with the knowledge at risk. People who who the internet or the big discount resellers do so at their own peril as there is very little technical backup from these places if any at all. Quite often they simply say call the manufacturer. The manufacturers are not there for tecnical support in general and are not geared up for this task. A while ago JVC actually had a message on there customer support number saying that the customer was supposed to call the supplier of the products for technical support and not them.
Whilst at work we are constantly asked questions that fall into the RTFM catagory (nice to know someone else uses that acronym) but as they customer given us the opportunity to serve them and its part of the service we ofer we do so with generally good grace and humour. It is amazing how many people don't know how to use their kit and make no attempt to do so until they press the wrong button or do something silly.
Coming on here without reading the instructions or the files marked "read me" is abit of a liberty as it's basically asking for other people earned knowledge without offering anything back, however it Chris could have been a little more pleasant with the reply whilst still giving the advice of "read the Read Me file" to see how its done.

Altruism benefits no-one but it's recipient.

Manufacturers go to a great deal of expense to prepare manuals and instructions. It is simply rude to ignore them.

Most manufacturers hold copies of these manuals on their websites and you should always go there first. if you don't have the manuals in printed or as provided on a CD.

True but if people cant be bothered to read the information given in the instructions and on the website why should others go to the effort instead?

Sadly the FM is not much use for the update after 1015.1 as the file created from the .exe download has an extension of .bin and must be placed in a folder called UPG on your usb stick - then it works fine.
