Neighbours - episode contract changes (also touches on other soaps)
During the 07 revamp they changed the way in which characters appear per episode.
So before you had like 3 episodes on and 2 episodes off (or something similar to that effect) Now any character can appear in any ep. This is great for when a wedding or funeral needs attending, but its also responsible for the 2008 parker overload and the 2009 teen overload. Did you prefer it when you got a break for an episode or 2 from a story or character you didn't enjoy? In EE they seem to have a good system of having the right people at the right times, but EE / Emmerdale / Corrie are bad for making a character vanish for weeks on end. |

There was an interview a while ago with Susan Bower (exec producer) who denied that the contracts had changed. It does seem that the characters mainly stick to the 2/3eps per week, unless something really big is going on. Often there are characters missing, who you would expect to be around but they aren't contracted for that episode.

Yes I wish she would go and take a few of the teens with her!
I don't mind characters appearing more often to complete storyline or appear at a wedding or something like that. It would be good if contracts included giving everyone a major storyline regularly, instead of having so called regulars as supporting cast, for example I suppose Toadie had an appearance today, but it was just a few lines as part of the Ramseyteens story. |

Why's the OP inactive?
I agree with the Susan Bower comments. |
