Yea I thought that strange aswell.. especially considering that International Groups have been better than the international solo artists last year imo

They do if you win one.

They've dropped it just for this year, to make way for the Best Album of the Past 30 Years category. They've also dropped "Best Live Act" just for this year to make way for the "Best Brits Performance" category.

Both of these special categories have been introduced as a one off this year to mark the 30th anniversary of the Brits.

But don't know why they had to drop 2 established categories! though. Don't know why they couldn't just have the 2 special categories as extra awards!

The Brits are weird, cos with the Grammy's they have about 50 odd awards! but The Brits only have about 14. Really limits who get awards.

They should also bring back the rock/dance/urban cats, cos there are bands like Biffy for example who could potentially win Best Rock even if they missed out on getting a nom for best group etc.

And they should defo reintroduce BEST VIDEO. Videos are more important than ever now, especially with You Tube.

...of which the last ever winner was So Solid Crew's '21 Seconds' (which beat Fatboy Slim's 'Praise You'). I remember Michael Madsen announcing the winner and all of 'em clamouring up onto the stage to collect it from him.

I think it's also to do with 'time constraints' (don't want to prolong the show any longer than necessary) and possibly not wanting to give Black Eyed Peas the award (can't blame the organisers).

Peter Kay is getting money for old rope whatever happens (six figures isn''t it!?).

But they kind of are though in this context. I know that cool, hip music snobs like you and me know they've been around for ages but they're only starting to get major acclaim now and we all know the Brits, however on the ball they think they are are not... I'm not a fan of Animal Collective btw..

I find it more strange that Friendly Fires are up for best British Breakthrough when they were pretty established by 2008.

Breakthrough is basically getting into the mainstream, I would say that at the start of the year if you stopped someone on the street it would be highly unlikely they would have heard of them, now they probably would have.
