I so feel for you. A stray 'adopted' me, as a 'dog' person it took a lot, this was a few years ago, he died, and I was NEVER going to go there again. To cut a long story short, I have 2 cats - from kittens which I have never experienced before - and I am grateful for each day they are alive. They will be 2 in April,

They just kind of creep into your life, don't they? Don't give up the idea of getting another, there are many that want homes. It may be a bit soon, but don't rule it out xxxx

I am so very sorry to hear that.

My beautiful cat was killed yesterday morning, I can't even bring myself to talk about it. I just wanted to pay my respects. Thank you for that beautiful verse Piper.

R.I.P Little kitten.

I'm so sorry to hear about peoples' losses on this thread.

It is the worst thing to go through, and my sympathy goes out to you.

I know just how you feel. My 16 monthold Alfie was run over on Thursday night - he had only been out for about 10 minutes and a neighbour found him and brought him home to me. I am so devastated. I live on a quiet road too and there are quite a few cats in the area and they were all quite friendly. For the last 2 mornings one of them has been sitting at my back door for hours. Many of you might remember when I got him just over a year ago and used to come on here and ask for advice. Sorry OP didn't mean to hijack your thread but I know just how you are feeling

I'm so sorry for your loss

We aren't letting our little Roxi Moxi outside (she's about 9 months too) because of things like this!

So sorry to hear of what happened, but don't get me wrong but you don't get over it, you just live with it and love another cat. I have been there time and again and the only thing to do is remember your cat and love another

good luck and think of him at rainbow bridge

Im so sorry to hear this

We have 2 little black kittens, 4 months old, a male and female one. Even tho we live in rural area we are still scared to let them out. We used to have a black and white tom cat who feared nothing, he used to lie in the road in our small estate and the cars would stop while one of us ran out to wake him up and move , silly sod, hes gone now, natural causes tho

pets become so part of the family with their own little personalities, people who dont keep them dont understand sometimes.

my kitten goes outside, though only out into our garden at the moment. I'm dreading her going any further It's part of their nature to be outside, though I understand totally people's reasons for keeping their cats inside. Reading things like this makes me wish we hadn't started letting her out.

Thanks for all the kind words guys - My condolences go out to those who have dealt with the same thing recently

I have come to terms with it now though, and do not get overly upset when I think of him - Instead I smile at the good memories, and was glad to have him around for the short time he was here

I also look forward to getting a new kitten, and pray to god that the same thing doesn't happen again!!

Unfortunately the problem will be is that it will most likely happen again.

I would only get another cat if you where wanting it as a indoor cat.

You get many people who dont believe in keeping cats indoors and alot of people think its cruel.

But i think of them a bit like dogs, i wouldnt let my dogs roam the streets unattended as they would get knocked over by a car, stolen or hurt by some sadistic person, a cat is just the same and the sooner people realise that a cat can have a full happy life indoors the less little lives will be lost.

My cat is a indoor cat, shes a happy little camper, you just have to stimulate her a bit more, making sure she burns of some energy!
The vet was extremely pleased at the idea of keeping her indoors as she finds it very distressing the ever increasing numbers of dead and also badly injured cats that come into the surgery that have to be put to sleep. She felt that in todays society, cats just cant integrate or survive in built up areas.

Im not saying you should keep your cat as an indoor cat if you do ever decide to get another. It would just save alot of heartache and upset if you where able to keep him/her indoors.

Wish you all the best in the future.
