This question comes up almost every week. It's been covered in quite some depth already.

Have a look through the past threads and you'll find all the info you could need and more about signal types, cable types, what signals work with which sockets, where to buy cables and adapters etc etc etc etc.

To save people time rewriting the same old stuff again here are some links to recent similar threads

I'd say the links have been useful because you now know you need a DVI to HDMI cable.

Now, for sound it depends what audio outputs the laptop has, and also possibly which specific model 46" Pana you have, but as a rough guide...

From the user manual for a Panasonic TH46PZ85..

• When the DVI to HDMI adapter cable is used, connect the audio cable to the audio input terminal (HDMI1: use COMPONENT-AUDIO terminals / HDMI3: use AV3 audio terminals).
• Audio settings can be made on the “HDMI1 / 3 Input” menu screen. (p. 26)

So you want a lead from whatever audio output you have on the laptop (probably 3.5mm headphone jack) to red & white phono plugs that will connect to the telly.

This has been mentioned before in previous threads, but I don't suppose a recap will hurt...

Sound over DVI from desktop graphics cards -
Ordinarily DVI doesn't carry sound.

However, there are some manufacturers putting audio through DVI from a linked sound card. It's worth checking if your graphics card supports this feature. If not, then stick with a separate lead for audio from the sound card.

Most desktop PC audio cards have analog audio outputs on 3.5mm jack sockets. Since the sound card will probably support some form of surround then there'll be two or possibly three sets of audio out jacks. The best thing to do is have a look at the card and also the sound card set-up software to see how the card can be configured.

Since your TV has a stereo input (R & W phono sockets) then what you want is a stereo signal from the sound card. This probably means disconnecting the PC speakers and possibly changing the sound card settings so it gives a stereo signal. Consult your manuals/manufacturer's web site for more info.

However the set up is done, the stereo sound for the TV will come out of the sockets marked for Front Left & Right.

Here's some links to pictures showing how the sockets vary depending on the capabilities of the sound card. This is why it's important for you to check the capabilities of your own card!!!

and of course not forgetting integrated audio found on motherboards instead of a separate sound card...

I put the movie on to a USB stick and this plugs into my dvd.
Or just burn it onto a 20p dvd disc.

If your TV is a S , G or V series from 2009 onward then AVChd recordings playpack in stunning quality even from compact cameras such as TZ7 let alone full HD camcorders . Wont play "quicktime movies from low budget cameras though ( they would look poor on a full size screen anyway . Hope this helps
