Regarding a problem with a Panasonic 42 inch plasma TV (5 months old, model number TX-P42X1OB).....

Round the outer edge of the screen, there's a small area all the way round the screen and a consistent amount which appears like a faded colour, more apparent when the TV is off/anytime with a blank screen although you can see it when the TV is on aswell.

This has been reported to the shop it was purchased from and Panasonic - both reckon it's to do with what the screen's been wiped with but the owner has only ever wiped the screen with the cloth provided and an amount of water only enough to make the cloth slightly damp.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, which to me (not an expert) looks like a form of screen burn rather than what the screen's been wiped with.

The instructions supplied with the cloth say it was for cleaning the 'the shiny parts' - now whether the screen itself is considered a 'shiny' part I don't know

Does this appear to be on the outer surface, or behind the glass?

So the "Shop" is refusing to "Mend" it?

It's behind the glass

Well, the shop told the customer to ring panasonic, who put them in touch with an authorised repairer because the shop were "too busy" to deal with it at the time last weekend.

They're going to contact the shop they bought it from again tomorrow to see where this goes from here because it seems absolute nonsense that wiping the screen could've caused what actually looks like screen burn.

Apparently it's not covered in the warranty or manufacturers guarentee either, according to Panasonic & the authorised repairer.

If it's behind the glass then wiping the screen cannot have caused this.

Panasonic's do not usually have any trouble with screen burn especially after just 5 months, I doubt it is screen burn.

I assume this is in a viewable part of the screen - where you actually get lit pixels?

I suspect this might be a poor application of the Anti reflective coating, there have been a number of people reporting similar issues but it's not usually just around the edge. Clearly as bobcar say's if it's behind the glass it can't be anything to do with cleaning it.

It is behind the glass, all around the border of the viewable screen when lit pixels are, yes, perhaps 2 inches in depth all around the outer edge of the screen.

The shop is most definitely responsible for this, don't take no for an answer - it's not screen burn nor faulty cleaning.

This is all very vague and little information has been given - it's not even been said so far if the set has been examined or not?.

I thought it had not been examined and that it had just been reported - that was the basis of my replies. Obviously if someone has been out to see it and the fault is not as described (why wouldn't it be?) then that would be a different matter.

I also thought it hadn't been examined -- which is why I queried it. It needs examining, and this thread is pretty pointless until that happens and we know the outcome.
