Hey so I was just browsing the net and found a local restaurant with a New Orleans theme (http://www.oldorleans.com/home)

I love New Orleans and ate Alligator for the first time there this Summer.. I was just wondering if anybody knows anywhere that sells it in the UK?

Is it illegal or just because we're lacking in alligatorage in our waters??

I saw crocodile in Sainsburys once. I couldn't resist it. It's a great shame we don't have Ostrich here any more, that is great.

There's a big ostrich farm near Penrith in Cumbria. They sell meat (or at least used too)

Dip a pencil eraser in thick chicken soup, you've got mock-alligator. I had it in Florida.

Not sure about alligator, but they used to serve crocodile and ostrich here at the Three Crowns at Brinkworth (near Swindon in Wiltshire) http://www.furryfeet.tv/cotswolds/ve...u=183&include=

You could buy ostrich and alligator (or was it croc?) the last time I went to Makro (about 3 weeks ago).

This was the one in Knowsley - they were in a freezer in the fresh meats section (I know, I know)

Aye, I remember our local one doing that.

A local restaurant used to do Ostridge and Kangaroo. I haven't heard of them doing it recently though. I think it's down to cost really. If it's not popular then they have wasted a lot of money importing it just to bin it.

I have a feeling it actually was crocodile, not alligator. So thank you very much Uncle fester. Also, glad you enjoyed my words:

Some restaurants serve it, although I doubt the emat can be very fresh and at its best, considering how far it must be imported in from.

The same could be said for a lot of meats and fish. Just because they are available in this country doesn't mean that they are necessarily sourced from here.
