I was a big fan...."new boots and panties" is a 5 star album and "what a waste" one of my favourite songs of all time. I haven't seen the new movie yet but will check it out, hopefully it will lead to an Ian Dury resurgence and maybe the "x-factor" generation will gain an appreciation of a unique artist and a strong lyricist

I was also a big fan from the start, bought NBAP and played it non-stop. 'Sweet Gene Vincent' has always been my favourite.

I'm looking forward to the film and am hoping it's good. It will take a really bad film maker to make a hash of Ian's life story, as it had it all!

Still can't believe he's gone, even after all this time.

I was shocked when he died even though I knew he had a terminal illness

I'd rondez-vouez with Janet
quite near the Isle of Thanet
she looked more like a gannet
she wasn't half a prannet
her mother tried to ban it
her father helped me plan it
and when I captured Janet she bruised her pomegranet

you don't get words and rhymes like that today, Eminem should bow down

Ian and the Blockheads are solid legends

Dury was a genius, can't belive it's been nearly ten years since we lost him.

There was a great documentary on Saturday night on BBC 6music, followed by a gig, still available on iPlayer. Going to see the film in a week or two and can't wait!

Tempted to buy the new compilation bought out as it has the 12" version of Rythm Stick and Reasons to be cheerful, which I have on vinyl but it jumps through overuse Love the sax bit in that

There's a good "warts and all" feature in this months Word magazine...it seems Mr Dury was quite a complex character - albeit a genius poet.

A true genius! Was gutted when he died. The movie looks good and I'm sure Andy Serkis does the role justice.

Does anyone know if the MP3 park bench is still in Richmond Park and still working?

Verses from 'There ain't half been some clever bastards':

Noel Coward was a charmer,
As a writer he was drama,
Velvet, jackets and pyjamas,
The gay divorce and other dramas,

Van Gough did some eyeball pleasers,
He must have been a pencil squeezer,
He didn't do the Mona Lisa,
That was an Italian geezer,

Einstein can't be classed as witless,
He claimed atoms were the littlest,
When you did a bit of splittemness,
Frighten everybody shitless,

Liked Dury since I first heard hit me with your rhythm stick aged 10, Wasn't he the first stiff records artist to get to number 1? Great guy, great story, can't wait to see the film, hope it is better than some other films I waited for ages to hit the cinema screens and the films turned out to be disappointing

yep Ian was the fitst Stiff artist to get to no.1. Reasons... might have got to no.1 as well if it had got on to TOTP but there was a technician's strike that week apparently

Andy Serkis was on The One Show the other night.I was really dissapointed he didn't break into a Gollum impersonation.
Saw a clip of the film and he was perfect.

Mash it up harry!

When we were kids we had a rabbit called IAN after him. He escaped from his hutch, chewed through the chicken wire and ate the next door neighbour's lettuce plants, my dad went crackers. He made him glass panels for his hutch after that.

Looking forward to the film though

Absolutely loved Ian Dury in my teens. Was lucky enough to see him live.

New Boots & Panties was brillliant. Loved it all. Plaistow Patricia - being from 'up north' I didn't even know how Plaistow was pronounced until I heard it in his fabulous gravelly voice
