Er... why did Graeme from Corrie win an award?
OK, this character was funny for the first while and had a few good one liners. And that clip they showed of the blood in the butchers shop was good.
But really, is he deserving of a national award? I get the impression that he is a character who viewers seemed to like and now they try and overuse him in the soap to compensate for the lack of stronger characters. He plays that role well, but he is one-dimensional and I can see him becoming another Kirk - the "I'm thick" act over and over again. It's happening already. Although the actors he was up against weren't exactly great competition either.... |

Because people voted for him?
![]() I don't like the character either. Don't see what all the fuss is about, I find him irritating. But I know he has his fans. |

He had little competition, also he's hardly much of a 'newcomer' and is a lot more established then the other 3 are.

I'm glad he won, but I liked all the nominees. I think he's a good character

He won because more people thought he was the best newcomer over the others in the nominations
It's simple maths really

I voted for him. Him he is adorable, likable unlike kirk. He is funny, his humour is good. It's different to Kirk's.
I think his comedic timing will keep him going strong for a long time on the show. |

I actually think it was a very weak category. Neil McDermott and James Sutton are okay in their roles but nothing special, that girl from Hollyoaks looked dreadful in the clip. Craig Gazey was the best of a bad bunch

Craig Gazey is not that bad an actor, though I can see why people would dislike him, but it's not the end of the world. So he won, who cares? It's just an awards show. It's not going to dictate what I like and who I should like. Just Deal with it. |

Because they voted for him. Look who he was up against - hardly tough competition was it?

Graeme brings us a different take on comedy. Yeah he is soft in the head, but he dosen't act like a total plank unlike kirky boy. Graeme is also actually quite funny unlike Kird I might add. Yeah, all in all I think he deserved the award. I was actually quite suprised at how the funny the guy who plays Graeme is in real life. He got me giggling at how confident, eccentric and funny he is in real life when accepting his award. Very similar to his character in Corrie. |

I was at the NTAs tonight, and I remain perplexed as to how James Sutton would qualify as a newcomer nominee. Does that mean if Barbara Windsor went onto another soap she could qualify. Consequently, out of the other three I can't say I have been blown over by Ryan or Cheryl either.

Would a different EE nominee have stood a chance against him?

Did Lucas join last year?
There's also Amira or Syed . I can't really think of anyone else who is relatively new apart from the spawn of Satan Dotty .With regard to other soaps, Hollyoaks the only one worth a mention would be Hayley. The new batch of school kids are very annoying and I don't think Lydia or Charlotte merit awards either despite being part of the best Hollyoaks plot last year. |

If she did, I am certain she would qualify. Craig Gazey's character first appeared in April 2008, so he's quite an ancient "Newcomer".

He does seem to just be himself on Corrie, but no one was decent on that lineup.

Thanks for the clarification Missa. As I said I was a bit perplexed. I used the Babs example to hammer home my confusion.
