New PVR9300T fails to accept any user input and display is blank

Good day!

I've just taken delivery of a Humax PVR-9300T.
Upon switching it on, the bootloader message is seen (it reports version a4.37) on the TV screen and then the automatic channel search begins.
At no point whilst the machine is switched on does the front panel display show any LED activity - it remains completely blank.
At no point whilst the machine is switched on does the remote or the front-panel respond to any key presses.
With the RF cable connected, the initial automatic search finds all digital channels.
During the search, it is not possible to stop the search by pressing OK on either the front panel or the remote control.
When the search is completed it is not possible to save the channels using either the front-panel or remote.

Again, the front panel display is not lit and the machine does not respond to any user input.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be so?

I have a RS-232 null modem cable and a PC, is it likely that an update to the firmware might help and if so, can you please point me to resources that will help me to try the update?

Anyone had the same issues? Return to the shop?

Regards,

jah

I don't think it is a commonly reported problem. I would guess the connection to the front panel has become detached or the front panel is faulty. I suggest you take it back to the shop for exchange.

My guess would be that a cable connection to the front panel has become disconnected, possibly in transit. Simple solution would be to return to shop for an exchange unless you feel inclined to open the case and check the security of the cable harnesses.

Thanks for the responses folks.

I've just rung John Lewis and they've arranged for a replacement to arrive by 1030 tomorrow and a collection of the duff one tomorrow afternoon. Shame it was duff, but bravo! to JL for no hassle customer service phonecall.

Thanks again.
