you can never ever take them outside to give them chance to pee/poop enough. we used to do it on a half hour rota with our puppies, and house training was a breeze

always treat all good behaviour, be it with a tasty treat or praise and fuss

always ignore any bad behaviour as any attention to a dog is good attention

good luck

having had our first puppy for 4 months I would say take a lot of deep breaths it does work and use a technique we were taught called the magnet technique
praise all behaviour you like whether it's based on command or not - for example if your puppy is sitting calmly with you - praise and reward - they are totally in the moment and so then understand sitting calmly is good and gets praise/reward
Barkers liver treats are fab and don't give them bad tums
Good Luck it is very hard work

When you pick it up, I'm guessing you're in a car, I'd place some newspaper on the floor by your feet, and place a blanket on you knees and let her rest and she'll soon settle.

Once you get home, take it out for toilet, and let it sniff each room one by one, so it gets to learn what rooms are what. Choose a room for it's bed and stick to it, along with all the feeding times.

We crate trained ours, and she is only 14 weeks old at the moment, so we will crate her after a feed for 20 mins, before toiletting, as they hate to soil their beds. Also crated her for 30 mins if we were cooking etc, so she got used to it, and now she will go into her crate if we say "bed".

Make sure you praise when she does good things, and toilets in the right place, but don't tell her off... When she bites you, make sure you "yelp", and once she pauses a little to praise her, so she learns that biting you isn't good, but toys are good =] If it toilets in the wrong place, just ignore it, clean it up, but use a non-ammonia based solution from pet shops =]

Also, make sure you read the back of treats and toys to make sure that you're feeding it the right things, as I know that Pedigree Tubos are for 4 months old and over.

Get it used to a soft collar, but remember to take it off whenever she is left unattended and at night time. It will cry the first few nights, but don't go and see it, just try to distract yourself. If you are going to be locking it in it's crate, during the night you will have to let it out every 2 or 3 hours for toiletting.

Just remember, the first 3 years of a dogs life are the hardest as they are like infants from birth till 8 months, and adolescents from 8 months till 3 years. After the 1st year, as long as everyone is being consistant with the training and praise, you guys should have clicked it by then =]

Oh also, although it won't be able to be walked until it is 11 or 12 weeks old, make sure you take it everywhere with you... including supermarkets... Carry it =] We did that with our Holly, and the only shop we got kicked out of was Booths, but Sainsburys loved her, and we allowed a few kids to give her treats, just to socialise her with every kind of person and situation. Before it reaches 14 weeks of age is the best time to socialise a puppy.

Hope this helps... and I hope the breeder you are getting it off give you a toxic food list, and help with puppy food, training etc

make sure they have had first injections (although i imagine they will have) ...

get insurance!! you'll get 6 weeks free from petplan its worth it

book for second set of injections and only let outside in a clean place where other dogs/cats cannot get to if possible. will be housebound until its second set of injections.

Dont humanize your dog - giving it your food sweets treats may seem kind and loving but really in more than tiny doses its more cruel than kind. Especially chocolate...why people would purposely give their pet something toxic to them is beyond me they would rather a piece of steak over a piece of chocolate 9 times out of 10..

if you can get ur dog chipped...its not expensive and if you lost your dog gives a chance of getting it back

what else...oh ye walks once a day...but when a puppy (after second jabs of course) very minimal according to the speciality of the breed as too much effects growth.

stick with puppy foods for size of breed to start its a little expensive but really does have the right calories for your dog...large dog food has considerably less because they arent growing - dont change the food if possible always be consistent as can make your dog a bit icky in the tummy. If this should happen revert to rice and chicken until your dogs tummy is settled then go back to food and stick with it.

if its a girl i believe bulldogs have trouble giving birth..so if you do ever consider it please look into this (i have no doubt you would have anyway im jsut throwing everything i can out there that is more sternly important)

OH YEH!!! if you can please take something from the mother like a blanket or toy with her smell on, your dog may cry a lot in the first night they get home sick and a bit scared in a new place and having something that smells of the mother helps with that as a comfort aid. we put troys mums blanky on a duvet next to the bed the first few weeks and he didnt cry at night although he was nervous. you see the true colours the second week when they get a bit cocky in their surroundings ha

Last of all....CONGRATULATIONS!

make sure you get the special wee cleaner, washing it with bleach or soap wont get the hormones up so they will be likely to pee on the floor again (since smelling it is there spot)...i didnt know this initially!

Don't forget to be very patient with your new pup because he is just a baby and you can't toilet train them in five minutes. Little accidents are bound to happen from time to time, even after you think you've almost cracked it!

Go to Pets at Home. We use this =]

With the paper training, as Holly's crate is in the kitchen, we covered half of the floor nearest the door with paper, and let her use that, and made such a fuss of her when she did her toiletting there. Puppypads seem to help, however we now take her out, and she only has one puppy pad by the back door for toiletting throughtout the night =] hehe just remember to praise him =]

We were quite lucky as she had been paper trained at the breeders home, but we had to get all her jabs done ourselves, she isn't chipped yet, as she screams with jabs let alone that thing.

Bulldogs are quite headstrong dogs, so you will have to be consistant with your training, rules and boundaries =]

This may be a while off yet, but get your puppy trained at a young age. Some people leave training too late, and dogs learn much better when they are younger.
Some people don't train their dogs at all, and you can tell when you see them walking their dogs and can't control them.

You don't have to do too much, but make sure you get the basics done like sit, stand, wait, down, come etc. Notice also each commend i mentioned it made up of one word. Try to keep commands to one or two words at the most and make sure everyone in the family knows the words you are using so they don't start using different words.

But before you can do any training, just enjoy your little puppy

Oh and I can't say it enough as we made this mistake, take lots of pics when its still young. We realised we don't actually have any good pics of a Jack as a tiny puppy.

He's lovely

Very Boxer - is he old lines or new blood?

I know from other posts it might seem like I'm not a fan of cross breeds but the English Bulldog is one area I make an exception. A bred to type Valley, Dorset Olde Tyme or Victorian is often superior to a KC English Bulldog , much more in keeping with what the Bulldog is supposed to be - Loyal, game and strong.

The Bulldog is such a great breed we should keep the genes, but the KC pool is so small and f'cked up despite the efforts of a few great breeders that outcrossing is the only way foward - and back to my argument for an open studbook in the KC.

Thanks for the comments he is a good mix of the two sometimes you can see the bulldog in him more than boxer especially when he doesn't want to go somewhere!

If he was from a long line of Valleys his breeder would probably have given you a pedigree. Valleys have been around for a while now, longer than DOT or Victorian, and there has been some effort to breed them to type (so they all have similar characteristics such as hight and build). If you get a Valley from a long line of Valleys you pretty much know what you are getting - looks and personality wise.

However, the number of Valley Bulldogs - as far as I know and its been a while since I looked into them - is relatively small so introducing new F1s (First Crosses) isn't necessarily a bad thing - it just means the pups could end up very Boxer or very English rather than Valley, as could any pup bred for the first few generations.

I only hope they don't end up like a lot of crosses like Labradoodles and bred by idiots to make a quick buck and sold as something they aren't. When I looked into them that didn't seem to be happening - all the breeders seemed to be enthusiasts. Hope the situation is still the same.

We looked into English, Valley, DOT and Victorian as Eldest wanted a English Bulldog but had concerns about their health & liked the look of the DOT. He ended up with a Bull Mastiff as the poor pup was in dire need of a good home. He still loves the Bulldogs though.
