I will never eat a chicken kiev again...
After seeing Britain's Really Disgusting Food on BBC1 on Monday. Even the good makes and Finest are made with some mechanically separated chicken. Tesco Value are made totally from this and the chicken was a brownish colour. Showed how they do it, by pressing the carcass against a wire wall. All the remaining meat, gristle, skin etc etc falls off like a slush. Disgusting.
Also tinned hot dogs. Won't ever eat those again.

I've seen a clip of mechanically removed meat before and I still eat chicken nuggets.
I've seen a clip of the process of making a bog standard takeaway donner kebab (Elephant Leg). I had a kebab the other night and the leftovers last night. Lovely stuff ![]() As for Hotdogs..... http://www.boosman.com/blog/images/2003-08-15-02.jpg

I agree that Tesco Kiwevs are hideous , awful creations that should not be described as food.
Lidl kievs however are made with chicken breast, are delicious and cheaper! |

i would not by preference eat any chicken (or indeed any meat) ever described as "chopped and shaped" - this is reclaimed stuff
we never buy minced meat - if i want to make a lasgne or a chilli, i buy braising steak, and mince it in a food processor M & S, and Tesco do very nice whole join/breast kieves, with a bone in. They cost a bit more, and its worth it |

Make your own! They're easy enough.
I usually make mine to a Weight Watchers recipe - slit the chicken lengthways to make a pocket and stuff with 50g low fat garlic and herb soft cheese. Roll in seasoned flour, egg wash and breadcrumbs and bake in the oven (about 180C) for 25 minutes. Gorgeous! Or, just use your own garlic butter, bread them in the same way and oven bake or deep fry them. |

There is something queer about folk who complain about this sort of thing yet are happy to eat pieces of animal which are recognisable as pieces of animal.

Lidl kievs however are made with chicken breast, are delicious and cheaper! How much do they cost just out of intrest? Years ago I bought some from Lidl that said 'MADE from chicken breast' but once you have a proper look at the ingredients it turned out that they where bog standard shite and they where twisting the truth a bit. Also if they are under 2 quid its usually a dead giveaway that they are just as bad or even worse than yer average Kiev. |

On Monday it's seafood. Fish fingers with hardly any fish and fake prawns. What the hell is a "fake prawn" made out of?

Were there feathers in the chicken kiev? I bought a whole chicken a couple of months ago and there were feathers in it.

![]() Do you mean, still left on the skin? Simple, pull them out, takes a few seconds. |

Surely chicken is chicken, it's how it's raised that's the problem, not how the meat is taken off.
The mechanically reclaimed stuff is no different than boiling a carcass for stock, it's just getting the last bits of meat off the bones... |

I've never liked cheap chicken products, they're all awful as the texture isn' there but I have nothing against Mechanically reclaimed meat and still love hot dog sausages. Cheap and bloody tasty.

I don't buy any think like that any more. I get my meat from a local butcher and the quality is always very good. I sometimes make my own chicken kiev type things and they are always so much nicer than the cheap ones you can buy.

It's stuff like this why I love my butcher.
It does cost more but it seems to go further and all free range etc. Am I the only one who gets stomach upsets from over processed food? |

The standard Tesco ones should be OK. It's just the value ones that are best avoided.

I echo the sentiments of those who say make your own!!!
I try and avoid (what I call ) computer generated food as much as possible. |
