I can watch NBC Feeds on my tv - no problem.
I watch them through my video as well - no problem
Both cope in showing me great picture.
However when I record, the playback is in black and white.
Similar to what happens to French tv when it is converted form Secam to PAL. Is there anyway I can get playback in Colour.

Many thanks

the problem is that your vcr is trying to record ntsc in pal,the end result is the same as if you put ntsc to a tv that cannot handle it which is black and white.what you need is a multi system vcr

Thank you for your advice.
However, I do have a machine that will play NTSC videos bought from the states.
Is this not enough or am making a simple connection error somewhere

Your VCR can playback NTSC tapes to the TV because the colour signal is modified by the VCR to PAL 4.43MHz.
But it cannot record a true NTSC 3.58MHz colour signal.
To do this you need either a VCR that is capable of multi-standard recording or a signal standards converter.

How do you get NBC - it's almost like one of those Threads 'Can I get US TV in the UK'. Do you have a satellite positioned at a certain angle, and can you get other US stations?

(If you, starlingdarling, don't want to answer this, fair enough)

Thanks!

This has been answered on many different threads previously. I have a motorised system and NBC send thier primetime programmes (8pm US Eastern Time to 2 am ) UK time (1 - 7 am) via Telstar at 15 degrees west.
They also send MSNBC - the rolling news service and Today at least on a Monday to Friday, their equivalent to GMTV (nEW yORK TIME 7 -10 AM) UK time (12 noon - 3pm).

CBS also send feeds on 16 degrees east, I have never really tried that.
I have been watching the apprentice when I was in the US during March and wanted to carry on watching since my return home

I'm surprised you managed to get a working recording in NTSC, albeit in black & white.

Last time I tried to record NTSC on my S-VHS Panasonic, which has NTSC 4.43 (PAL60) playback support, the result was a stuttering mess. At least it was in colour though.

Are the NBC feeds still scrambled on Telstar at 15 degrees west still scrambled?

One other answer could be for you to get a DVD recorder...these are not 'fussy' about what they rocord, other than you cannot mix pal or ntsc recordings on the same disc...I have a multi standard Samsung video which has served me well for about 5 years now, but now I just record any NTSC feed direct to disc..much better quality all around!!
