iTunes & iPod Classic Questions
fat controller

When playing a track/album in iTunes on the PC, how do you stop it? I see that there is the pause button, but no stop button - surely closing the application isn't the only way to stop a track playing?

Also, when listening to albums on an iPod Classic, is there any way to get it to play through and album and then move onto the next one along? At the moment, mine will play an album to the end and then just stop, which can be a bit of a pain in the car.

Thanks in advance

Well, iTunes has a play/pause button. Pause is the same as stop. What's the problem? (You can use the spacebar to stop/start a track...)

Historically, the Stop button was used primarily on tape players, commonly cassette players, and latterly video recorders. It would stop the mechanism and disengage the tape from the playheads. The pause key, on the other hand, simply stopped the mechanism from winding the tape forward - commonly leaving the tape in contact with the heads and the motor running. Mainly, pause was a device for more accurately cueing the tape as it could be stopped/resumed more quickly than the stop/play mechanism (which on some cassette players were servo controlled). Yes, I know CD players also sport a Stop button, and largely, it's the same reason - Stop stops the mechanism, an pause keeps things running without advancing through the medium.

On your PC, there is no tape or CD, just bytes buffered from harddrive (or CD), so no wear and tear from extended pause, so no need for an explicit Stop key. Phew! Next!

You could set up a smart playlist, and specify Artist='your artist name' - that'll basically make a long list of tracks by that artist, grouped by album, and as long as you choose that playlist, you can listen to consecutive albums for as many as there are. (To make sure the albums are grouped and sorted, click the 'Album' column heading in the playlist - the little 'sort' arrow will appear - IIRC iTunes will sync the playlist as shown.)

Or you could do a smart playlist where it chooses 'Album = A + Album = B + Album = C' etc
