Firstly, can I request that this thread stays spoiler-free please? It's really annoying when an exciting new storyline comes along and all the suspense gets knocked out of it by someone who has read a crummy TV mag or something.

Anyway, what a brilliant new storyline emerged in last night's EastEnders. I'm only really a casual viewer (my missus sort of insists I watch it) but this one has got me absolutely hooked in. I'm talking, of course, about Glenda's coffee cups. Ronnie has long been an annoying character, but this surely peaked last night when she kept interrupting Glenda (with fripperies about her pregnancy and brother) when she was trying to talk about the cups. I was screaming at Ronnie to shut up!

The ending when she dropped one was just incredible, and so unexpected - I actually sat forward in my chair and said "NO!! SHIT..." I'm big enough to admit that, while I pissed myself laughing when Danielle got run over and died in Ronnie's arms, last night's ending really hit to the core of me and almost made me tear up. Remember - she'd had these cups 3 years and clearly adored them, and never broken one previously. I can't even imagine what she must have been feeling.

So where do you guys see this going from here? The cup was clearly shattered so I don't think it can be repaired. As for replacing it - even ignoring the fact that the range may have been discontinued - could she afford it? She mentioned they were expensive, and she certainly doesn't look flush at the moment. Perhaps Roxy, with her new inherited wealth, will turn out to be the only one in a position to be able to do so? Is this going to be the incentive for Glenda to finally make peace with her estranged daughter?

Actually, do we even know how many cups she had? There were obviously two as both she and Ronnie were using one, but do you suppose they were part of a larger set or is that it? I'm wondering if it's going to emerge that there's only two, and that's the reason why she hadn't tracked the girls down until now, as they wouldn't have all been able to sit down together and take coffee from her nice coffee cups.

I also thought I saw Archie's DNA on one of the cups (although my missus said it was just the design on the cup), which would be quite a revelation - remember, she said she'd only had these cups for 3 years and she's supposedly been excommunicated from her (ex-?) husband for far longer than that. The issues this would raise if true are just mindblowing - maybe Jack can get one of his mates in the force to check it out?

Can't wait for tonight's episode to see how this pans out. What does everyone else think?

LOL ! Are you suggesting one of the cup's murdered Archie? That would be very exciting, but I'm not sure the cup would be up to the reveal in the live episode ...

give me a coffee mug any day. At least you can have a decent sized cuppa in them.

Nothing worse than an odd number of matching cups. I hope Jack has the police resources to track down some more!

Hadn't thought about that really - I was just dealing with the simpler implication of Archie's DNA being present on the cups, that being that either -

a) Glenda and Archie have seen each other (and drank coffee) within the last three years

or, perhaps more excitingly

b) The cups are far, far older than just three years, and Glenda clearly didn't want Ronnie to know this.

Why aren't you here more often? DS should hire you to write reviews on EastEnders.

Is the cup really broken? I'm sure the scriptwriters could come with a plausible explanation for its return if they really wanted to. Perhaps Glenda hallucinated the breakage?
