Supernature was a fantastic album, Seventh Tree was very good too, here's hoping Goldfrapp keep it it up for the third!

She's releasing new material? Guess we'll have to put up with her slagging off other artists for a bit of cheap publicity then?

What about the other two albums previous to Supernature?

Those too are pretty much a given when it comes being great

Really like Believer. Will probably buy the album if the rest are like that.

I wasn't aware that Alison Goldfrapp was like this?! Are you thinking it's La Roux?

jane-hen12, the tracks I have heard (Rocket, Believer, Shiny and Warm and Alive) are all in the same style. Quite 80s.

For me, their best album is their first one (Felt Mountain). It's subtle and lovely. Black Cherry is a close second, followed by Seventh Tree. I wasn't a big fan of Supernature. It's alright, just not great. I hope the new album has some subtlety. The songs I have heard have been instantly catchy, which suggests they could get tiring (like with Supernature).

You can preview the album on iTunes now. It sounds like pure cheese, and not in the ironic "cool homage" way

The Richard X remix of this is better. I can't really say I'm looking forward to this new album

I love Goldfrapp so I'm hoping this album isn't a disappointment.

It leaked, basically. Not a good thing for them, but a good thing for impatient fans

ah, got ya. their last album leaked quite early, gotta say I didn't like it much. Can't say I'm too fussed about this one, loved their earlier stuff but not so keen on the new stuff. I'll give it a whirl.

You heard it yet? any chance of a quick review?

I loved their last album

There seems to be three types of Goldfrapp fans; those who love everything they do, those who love their camper, upbeat side and then those who like their more subtle side (Felt Mountain, Seventh Tree).

This album is very 80s! It's also camper than a tent. I think those who liked Supernature will like this album a lot. Almost every track wouldn't go a miss in an 80s teen movie for a "montage" scene. Don't get me wrong, the tracks on a whole are worth listening to and nothing terrible. It's certainly a new direction, perhaps with the exception of Shiny and Warm which could easily fit onto Supernature.

The best tracks, for me, at the ones which leaked earlier; Rocket, Believer and Alive. I also like I Wanna Life, which is very camp 80s pop.

Voicething is interesting but I can't help think this was just put on here for pretentious purposes. It doesn't quite fit on the album. They done an instrumental on Black Cherry and it worked well on there (Slippage).

There's no subtlety. Everything is in your face, unlike Seventh Tree or Felt Mountain.

My housemate thought I was listening to Olivia Newton John! To be fair, I can see why she thought this.

It's very short. Around 35 minutes in total. I am a big believer of quality over quantity, but one more track would have been appreciated.

Furthermore, most of the tracks are instantly catchy. I also memorised the lyrics very easily. This might sound like a good thing but when this happens it tends to get tired more quickly.

Now, I don't mind Supernature but so far it has been their worse album for my ears. I am now indecisive in whether I prefer Supernature over this.

6/10 for me

I just seen this. Head First will be their fifth album. You need to check out Black Cherry and Felt Mountain, which are by far their best albums; both released before Supernature.

Will check out the album in a bit.

Disappointed that 'Rocket' is set to miss the top 40 however, is there even a video for it. I also haven't seen them do any promotion. What's going on?

Rocket video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJppnG1tflU

It has a small amount if views in comparison to other videos. Mute (the record label) seem to have given up on Goldfrapp with this album. Alison said they were given a pathetically tiny budget for the music video.

They've done a very small amount of promotion; they were on Jonathan Ross and have been on radio a few times, but nothing big it seems. However, they have been in the press a bit.

I think they're relying on their fan base this time. No one new will know they're releasing the album in just over a week.

Perhaps the album leaking is a positive thing so people can realise it's getting released. Their last 2 albums went to number 2. I don't see this one getting there; perhaps not even a top 10. However, it is released on a week with very little competition for them:

Autechre - Oversteps
Bee Gees – Mythology: The 50th Anniversary Collection (4CD)
Dillinger Escape Plan - Option Paralysis
Gabriella Cilmi – Ten
General Fiasco – Buildings
Goldfrapp – Head First
Joe Bonamassa - Black Rock
Jonsi – Go
Justin Bieber – My Worlds
Laura Marling - I Speak Because I Can
Louis Eliot & The Embers – Kittow’s Moor
Mary J Blige – Stronger With Each Tear
Monica – Still Standing
Motion City Soundtrack – My Dinosaur Life
Serena Maneesh - No 2: Abyss In B Minor

Rocket, apparently, has been played on Radio 1 once!

Great review there CQ.

Not sure which camp I fit into. The first album of theirs I bought was Black Cherry, which I adored and still do (one of my all time favourites), then I got Supernature, which was a little less ambitious than BC but I thought it was ok, though I haven't listened to it for a while.
Then I got Seventh Tree and thought wtf? didn't like it one bit, however I then got Felt Mountain, so that 'dramatic change of direction' didn't seem so dramatic after all . Still don't care much for Seventh Tree, though I do love Felt Mountain.

I've heard a bit of the Rocket track, it's sounds too retro-hip for my taste and perhaps more a change of direction than Seventh Tree appeared to be - not very Goldfrapp at all, just a standard pop track.

I guess I'll give it a whirl on spotify but I ain't holding out much hope from what I've heard so far. They can be a bit hit and miss it would appear.

Mute do that alot, I think the minute they see an artist having less commercial success than they'd hoped for, they pull the budget on their project, still I guess it beats being kicked off a label, which is what a majority of record companies do these days.

It's all on a shoe string from now on I'm afraid.

If anyone has heard the song "Run" by Air (I really love this song!), Voicething reminds me of it.
