Silent/Beeping Phone Calls
This isn't a MOBILE telephony thread, but there is no where else to put it. On our landline, we keep on getting phone calls at all hours, one at 4.45am this morning. All they do is beep at you.
On 1471, it leaves the number/s. When you call the number, it gets picked up straight away, but is silent, or the number is engaged. I have registered our phone number with TPS, and it has been about a month and a half since that - we've even got the conformation letter. It is clearly a computer, and probably marketing. Can anybody clarify what it is and what we do to get rid of this! Thanks. |

It could be a fax. Put fax software on your PC, or borrow a fax machine. Leave it running overnight. Find out who it is. Saw their bloody legs off!

How the hell can we disconnect the line every night. What happens if the somebody in the family is taken ill? We have a Class 1 Diabetic, an 11-monther and a 4-year-old in the family. I have registered now not only with Telephone Preference Service but also with Fax Preference Service.

I see you're on NTL. Who offer free ACR (anonymous caller rejection) if when you do a 1471 you get "this caller withheld their number" or "no number was stored" then this will stop the calls coming through! Call up NTL (0800 052 2000) and ask for anonymous caller rejection to be put on your line. And thank god your not with BT who charge for ACR!!!!!
