I have read all the Ultimate Xmen and I am now looking for more Xmen to read.

Where do you suggest i read from?
I want to read First Class, so does this start from the beginning [and i dont mean start of xmen, how they meet etc. but the start of the story and not a sub story as such], as i dont like starting in the middle of a story

hopefully you can understand this

X-Men is a funny one to get to grips with.
Technically it all started as "X-Men", volume 1, issue 1.
By V1 #66 it was cancelled, but continued to be published as reprints of earlier issues, up to V1 #93.
Next issue released was "Giant Sized #1" which introduced the 2nd team, and was then continued in "X-Men v1 #93"
It started to be tagged "The Uncanny" on v1 #114, but the copyright title remained "X-Men". The copyright title was officially changed on v1 #142.

In the 90's, the team had grown so large that they split into 2 teams, with 2 titles.
"Uncanny X-Men v1" and "X-Men v2"
"X-Men v2" was retitled "New X-Men" by v2 #114, and reverted back by v2 #157. It should be noted that "New X-Men" was officially called "Volume 1", but reverted back to v2 when the title rechanged.
It was then retitled "X-Men: Legacy" by v2 #208, although offically called "Volume 1"

It all gets confusing....

But, to answer you question - I would advise (although it's one heck of a ride you are in for) to start with "Giant Sized X-Men v1 #1", and from there onto X-Men v1 #94 onwards.

^^ Uncanny X-Men #1 comes quite a bit earlier than Giant size...

Claremonts stuff is hit and miss in my opinion, when its good, it is very good (Phoenix, Asgard...) when it isnt good, it is pretty meh.

I wouldnt bother with First Class. if you want suggestions of the current stuff, start reading from the Second Coming arc that starts in a month or so.

Personally, I really like the fun run in Australia. It's somewhere in the mid 200s, but I'd start at about 200, where Psylocke is still wearing pink.

Long time since I read them, so I can't give definite numbers.

Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's run on X-Men was excellent. It occurred around the same time as the Ultimate X-Men's debut, early last decade if I recall. The series was renamed The New X-Men for their run and it was pretty crazy. Morrison's story shook things up a great deal, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I just finished Cassady & Whedon's Astonishing X-Men.

Is there a conclusion/resolution to the Kitty situation?

Not sure I'd agree, sure there were some so-so individual stories but the overall arc(s) from 114 - 270 was incredidle. It illustrated that you can build an audience by dealing with serious issues such as as alienation, bigotry, racism and apartheid

I think it depends on whether you like his writing style or not, and I dont really. some of his work is very good as I said, but a lot doesnt hit that high note as far as I'm concerned, and when it doesnt, his flaws in style are more apparent, and I really dislike them.

Plus when he came back on the book around #444 or so, truely terrible. Dino-Rachel anyone?

I just got my Uncanny Xmen down from the attic acouple of days ago, and im giving them a once over. I started reading them in '83, when I was 12, and so I'm quite fond of the Claremont stuff, more 'cos it was the era i grew up with. I was particularly fond of Rogue at the time.
I think the rot started for me after the group was fragmented after the Nimrod saga. Shadowcat & Nightcrawler went off with Captain Britain and those two were my other favs.
Then X factor started and the group progressively looked more and more like they were on steroids! Jubilee annoyed the hell out of me too! I dropped out of it, but bought the Jim Lee issues because his artwork reminded me of Mike Golden.

For me personally, the Claremont/Sienkiewicz run on the New Mutants was amazing, both storywise and artwise. It took me awhile to 'get it' artistically, it was so dark & dense but those issues never went up in the attic! So much darker than the Xmen, ironic considering it was about a younger group of mutants!

Hi all...

So 'X-men V2' / 'New X-men'... I have never read any of these... (I am re-reading the entire mutant books from UXM #94)...

Which Graphic Novels cover the X-men V2 / New X-men books, especially the earlier ones?

Cheers

PS: First time round, it was when the books split into two and Kurt & Kitty went Excalibur that I gave up on comics.

I love Incognito! The Canterbury branch was my local comic shop when I was at uni, & I continued using them via post after I graduated & moved to Cambridge.

It lasts until the Ultimatum cross-over which is when they finished all the Ultimate line titles. They've since rebooted some with the new Ultimate Comics line.

<not aimed at me, but...>

UK site, UK company. Based in Kent. I was a regular customer of the Canterbury branch, but they have others (the address on the website is for Dover). I've never used their website to buy stuff, but have bought in person & over the phone.
