Simply deleting channels in the 800 range is often not a good solution. You may find you are deleting the channels from your local transmitter which belong in the normal locations in the channel list and leaving the duplicate channels from the second transmitter in their place. The best option is to perform a First Time Installation to remove all existing channels and manually tune only the correct UHF Channels from your local transmitter.

Or maybe use the target region selector options that pop up at the end of an auto scan? I thought that was the idea of it, allowing you to choose which transmitter to pick, although I have no idea how it really works in practice seeing as I'm only in range of one transmitter here.

It has been quite a time, but I am back. At my wits end again with my HDR165 digital recorder. A few months ago in my area there was an update, after this viewing the programme list, recordings, deleting of recordings took at least 5mins every time, and every recording I watched and deleted, ended up back in the recordings list. Next update, cured the slowness but all recordings still end up in the recordings list, which is a pain. There was an update last week (wish I had not done it) the deleted recordings problem still exists, but now another problem on top has occurred, everytime I turn my TV on, the recorder freezes and I have to turn everything off and back on, this is ridiculous. I have tried a complete reinstall to no avail. Anybody else having this problem, or is there anything I can do, I just wish I could afford to buy another make and chuck this one in the bin. Diane

Certainly, don't chuck it in a bin, even if you can afford to buy another make. You may find this thread of interest which is largely dedicated to the problems that came with the v4.6 and v4.8 updates - you are not alone. I realise that it is 6 months since these problems started, but a little more patience will be rewarded. Vestel are working on a new software version to fix all these problems and more, and it is looking good so far (I've been working with Vestel to identify every fault and testing the fixes for them).

The only part from your message I don't really understand is the bit about the HDR165 freezing when you turn your TV on. Don't quite understand how that could happen - are you sure the HDR165 wasn't already frozen before turning the TV on?

Thanks for reply futaura, regarding the freezing problem, I pick the programmes I want to record the day before, then everything is turned off and I turn the recorder on the next night to record. Later when I sit down to watch TV I go to the library to watch what I have recorded, and can go no further, no button I press will do anything, so I have to turn everything off and back on, hope this makes sense. Problem = navigation buttons too small and too crowded, and only one skip-speed each way, whereas Vestels had 30s and 2m each way.

Ok, so the new Argos catalogue is out today - haven't got one, but not a whole lot has changed on the website. However, I'm sure it will be no surprise that the new T7650 Bush 1Tb model that appeared last month has been discounted from £249 to £199. Also, I have not mentioned this before, but Argos may well have a 320Gb version of this box which is discounted from £199 to £149 - the photo on the website is incorrect (it is a photo of a Freesat recorder - doh!). Presumably they have got the photo right in the printed catalogue! Both are available in store now. The T7300 320Gb model is still on sale for £129, although I'd be inclined to recommend the T7650 model.

Not sure if the Hitachi T835 models are still listed in the printed catalogue, but was half-expecting them to be replaced with T7650 models instead, which isn't the case. The "Wow" prices they're listed at on the website are not good value for money, IMHO.

The T7650 is developing nicely. The latest software brings "record 2 channels, watch another" feature to a Vestel PVR for the first time AFAIK - I know the Humax boxes have had this for a while. I got a bit of a shock when I first noticed it - I switched the box on when it should have been recording two channels, to find it was showing live tv from a channel that wasn't being recorded. Thought a recording had failed to start with .

I also now have a T7650 box which uses a 320Gb 2.5" HDD, although I cannot confirm if these are being deployed in retail (might just be my sample which is not retail branded). What I can say though is that the box is so quiet with the 2.5" HDD, not that it was noisy with a 3.5" HDD of course .

Meanwhile, it seems Argos have now stopped selling the T7300 model, although a Digihome branded version is available from Amazon and Finlux Direct are also selling one. The only real advantages the T7300 has it that it has 5.1 output on optical (the T7650 has no 5.1 output yet) and the HTML based iPlayer which has the HD output option (although this may possibly be changed to the MHEG iPlayer in a software update I guess).

As the T7650 seems to a serious contender for potential HD PVR buyers it would useful to have a dedicated thread for it.

I would suggest an opening post containing a summary of your recent comments would be good if you are up for it?

Ok, so I've still not got around to starting a new thread, but thought I should mention here that the first OAD for the T7650 is now broadcasting (until Friday morning). The v1.49 software brings the new functionality I mentioned before, and lots of fixes. More importantly, it is an improvement, unlike the recent botched T835 updates .

Also, Currys are now selling Logik branded T835 and T7650 boxes. The Logik T7650 is a 1Tb model, currently selling for £169.99 (£30 cheaper than the Bush/Argos equivalent).

I'm on the verge of a purchase but can't decide what to do for the best.....
The 1tb model in Currys sounds really tempting but I still sort of want to get a humax hdr fox t2 500gb refurb direct from them.
I'd love to give the vestel a chance over the humax but as I've mentioned in posts elsewhere, the machine has to be bullet proof and never ( if that's possible ) fail to record whatever it's told whenever it's told to do so.
I know that the humax is reasonably sound in that respect but how does the vestel box compare?

What you really need is a person who has or has tried both . Unfortunately, I've never tried a Humax myself so I'm not really in a position to comment on the differences. Certainly the T7650 is pretty reliable when it comes to recording stuff. There was a bug in earlier software versions which caused some seemingly random recording failures, but I believe Vestel have now fixed that - certainly my box has been bulletproof so far after installing the software that incorporated the fix (that was 2 months ago). This fix was made publically available in the recent v1.49 OAD. I think that most will agree that Vestel SD PVRs were/are one of the most reliable when it comes to recording.

In the interest of transparency, you can find a list of "issues" at pvrbugs.futaura.co.uk in the T7650 section - this is not fully up-to-date though, as I need to go through and recheck some of the old bugs to see if they have been fixed. However, it will give you some idea of the remaining issues that the box has, some of which are pretty minor and perhaps irrelevant to some.

Hi Tom - I do know that TVs generally do a lot better job of upscaling than PVRs/DVDRs etc.

My non-HD Vestels were ultra-reliable at recording, and their Accurate Recording was the very best of any model at the time. However, it's only the BBC channels that reliably emit the relevant signals, but all is not lost because the ads on each end of commercial channels' programmes form a useful buffer against minor inaccuracies.

If you want to be 100% certain of getting the beginning and end of, for example, a movie on Film4 or a programme on Dave, you could set a manual recording by the channel and time, adding several minutes onto each end.

We use series link a lot so manual recording is a no no I'm afraid. Unless the new vestel box somehow still does the series link thing while on manual timers?

I thought that bug list would have put you off! The T7650 upscales SD content to the current HDMI display setting (i.e. 1080p, 1080i or 720p). Nothing wrong with the upscaler from what I can see - does a great job.

The box does have some issues still, but how major they are or not is I guess down to personal taste. My advice would be to delete unwanted channels from the channel list, which will ensure the EPG stays fully populated, that series recordings set on HD channels don't start recording the SD channel instead and that the programme description is stored in the timer list. This is a bug that I have recently made Vestel well aware of and am confident that a fix will be made especially considering the SD models didn't have this problem.

As good as the T835 boxes were, in some ways I wish they'd stop making/selling them, as I'm sure this would give the T7650 a better foothold if prices were moved closer to the T835 price.

As far as I can see, the only bug that might be an issue is the black text on red background. I presume this will be addressed with a future update?

I wouldn't bet on it - it has been over a year since I recommended this be done on the T7300 . The text is still easily readable for me, but it would be even clearer with white on red throughout (the text is white on red in some places, and black on red in others).

I was hoping that Currys might have had one set up so I could have had a play but they didn't. I'll have to wait until we get home on Friday to get it set up and have a look for myself.......

Not long set up our nice new shiny black Logik 1tb t7650 box. No problems so far.
I've just missed out on the OTA download so is there a site to get it from so I can update manually? I've had a good look around but can't find any mention of it.....

Which version do you have currently? There is currently nowhere to download the software. If anyone has saved the OAD on a PC, please let me know and I'll be able to compare the OAD file structure with that of the USB update files in order to offer OAD downloads on my site.

I suspect the v1.49 OAD will be repeated soon - maybe it will show up tomorrow when the DTG update their site for next weeks schedule.
