99%, yes. The D61541GB part code on the demodulator chips is exactly the same as the chips used in the T835, although they do lack the NEC logo and have a different secondary code which would be why I'm not 100% sure. Sony was the first to make/release a DVB-T2 demodulator chip, hence all Freeview HD equipment has been using these chips - not sure if, even now, there are any alternatives to the Sony chip. The only other explanation would be that Vestel knew NEC were working on a cheaper DVB-T2 chip to replace their existing DVB-T chip that Vestel already used, having left space for those chips on the T7650 mainboard. Google isn't helping on finding a conclusive answer on this though .

Part of the reason for the change may be that Saorview follows Nordic spec, and the tuners need to have VHF band III capability, so that might be the reason for the change back to an older chip?

Maybe, although that's beyond my technical knowledge really. There are two sets of chips involved in the tuners - the smaller chip closer to the aerial sockets is related to the RF part of the tuner, and then you have the demodulator chip. Not sure which are involved where VHF band III is concerned. The one thing that I do know is that Freeview HD requires DVB-T2, whereas HD on Saorview is implemented using MPEG4 over DVB-T - an older standard, obviously, as used in Europe. Given that the Walker box is Saorview branded, and carries no Freeview+ HD, it could be that DVB-T chips were used as they were just a cheaper option (no point using more expensive Sony chips when Saorview is not using DVB-T2).

I spoke to the Irish Distributer. They say they are selling Walker branded ones in Northern Ireland. They said again it is DVB-T2. They are going to get back to me. I very much suspect you are right, it is not capable.

The Irish distributer is going to ask an agent in Northern Ireland to test the box for BBC HD reception. I should then be notified.

Meanwhile, I am trying to get an answer on this from Vestel in Turkey.

Ok, so now I am 100% sure . The T7660 was designed for use in Ireland - the tuner hardware is indeed just DVB-T (no DVB-T2).

Hi Futura

Do you have any idea when the next software update might be for the T7650 box?

Cheers Tom

Not sure when the next T7650 update will be, but it will fix the missing audio on playback of HD recordings issue and address the problem of only deleting timeshift buffers on boot up.

At least we don't have to worry about the T7660 superceding the T7650, although it may be that Cabot have been concentrating on the T7660 software recently. Anyway, that hasn't stop me feeding bug reports back to Vestel .

Keep up the good work sir

There is an issue I've come across that I can't see mentioned in your bug list. Is this the appropriate place to mention it?

Cheers Tom

It's only happened twice.
The box freezes and doesn't respond to the remote. The only way to get it back is to turn it off at the mains.
Once it's up and running again all seems well until the next scheduled recording kicks in, it then displays a message saying something like " unable to schedule timer recording as there is already a timer set for that channel at that time ".
If you press ok it just loops the message back up on screen after 5 seconds or so.
The only way I've found to stop the message coming up is to delete all the timers and put them back on again which is a pain in the bum........

I hope I've remembered everything correctly. The message has only ever come up after the box has locked up. When running normally the machine has been fine.

Hope this is of some help?

Cheers Tom

Presumably when it freezes, the box doesn't respond to the power button on the front panel either?

If you were actually using the box at the time it froze, do you remember what you were doing? The freeze is perhaps more important than the after effects that you're getting after removing mains power.

I have seen the error message that you mention, but I don't remember what box it was on - could have been a T835, T7300 or T7650. Certainly I have not seen it recently, and I suspect it may have been during crash happy pre-release testing with the T7300. From what I remember I managed to get rid of it by deleting one particular series timer, rather than all of them.

Hi

The whole box was unresponsive along with the remote.
As far as I can remember what happened last time, I'd been watching BBC News and went to change channel when I discovered it had frozen.
I tried deleting the timer of the program that had seemingly triggered the message but it did no good. The message only came up once a recording had started. Stopping it, deleting the timer made no difference.
Not sure if it makes any difference or not but the box had been on for at least 5-6 hours before this happened.

Ok. So, when you went to change the channel, was the current channel still "playing" ok - or was the picture frozen too?

Obviously, it sounds like something went screwy with the timers - this could happen more so on the T835, especially as the timer list didn't necessarily show all the internal timers (i.e. it sometimes hid timers). The HD models are more accurate in this respect.

Two more questions... How full is the hard drive? Just wondering if, as you had left it on for 5-6 hours, the timeshift buffers may have filled the drive it was running 80-90% capacity when you switched it on. Also, I presume you don't have duplicate channels from a second transmitter in the 800 channel number range?

The program that was on continued to be displayed normally regardless what buttons were pressed on either the remote or the box.
We've not had the hard drive past 35% full with maybe another 5% reserved.
The box picked up two transmitters, winter hill and moel y parc but once once I selected north west rather than wales as the region the correct ( winter hill ) transmitter was selected. I deleted all the crap channels anyway but there were none in the 800 range anyway.

Hope that's of help?

Cheers Tom

I think I've discovered another little bug.

While recording something on series link and you start watching it while it's still recording. Once you get to the end of the program, stop it and delete it from the library. A few seconds later it will start recording on the plus one channel.
It's happened a few times before so I thought I'd see if I could force the issue. Seems I did, twice out of two attempts on ITV, I've not tried it on any other channel.
The programs in question were an hour long so while playing back the recording, the program had finished and had overlapped to the time when the +1 channel was showing.

I hope this is of some use?

Cheers Tom

This one is a known issue, under the umbrella of the "recording repeats once the original recording has been deleted" issue which is normally more apparent on series where they are repeats shown the next day or the day before the next weekly episode. As you've found, equally it can happen if you delete the recording whilst that episode is being shown on a +1 channel. Not sure if this will ever be fixed, but it's one of my biggest pet hates and certainly Vestel should be aware of my views on it.

Right o

I couldn't see anything like it on the bug list link on your site so presumed it was a new one....
As long as they know about it As you say though, getting it resolved could be another issue....

There was something else but I'm afraid I can't be very specific about it.
When 2 timers kick in and I'm watching another channel on one of the Mux's required for recording. It warns me about one of the recordings and to proceed or cancel. Allowing it to proceed then changing channel and then going back to the one I was watching will allows me to carry on watching the 1st channel.
I hope that makes sense?

Cheers Tom

Yep, and that one is described at http://pvrbugs.futaura.co.uk/view.php?id=340 - this is a new bug related to the new feature which allows a different live tv channel to be watched (on same mux) when two other recordings are in progress. I re-iterated, to Vestel, the importance of a fix for this recently because it occurs on the T7660 Saorview boxes too - and when you consider that Saorview currently only has one mux, obviously this message is always showing up. So, might be more of a chance of this getting fixed sooner.

NIce one.

I've just worked out how to display the full list of bugs. And there was me thinking there were only the ones listed on the My View page

Hi I've bought one of these Logik 1TB ones from Currys yesterday...need to read this through in more detail and struggling to understand how the bug page works on the link...but ...two things I've found
First the picture was breaking up a lot last night ...this was just watching one channel , no recording - we do have a rubbish aerial (one day I will get round to replacing it!) but this seems to be worse than on my old T825 one ...so maybe the new box needs a stronger signal???
Second one - may be listed on the bug page as a 'green flash'?....and I didn't notice last night but today my children are complaining the picture keeps 'going green'. Picture has a greenish tinge - only lasts for I guess about a minute - and then goes back to normal . This is on an 11 yr old CRT tv connected by scart - but that all seems fine - (actually really hoping this is the new box and my tv isn't on its way out too - my camera died the day before the PVR and my children have both just had their birthdays and parties...actually surprised my card company hasn't stopped the card thinking it has been stolen!!!! )

How about if you very gently wiggle the SCART lead (try at the Logik end first, then the TV end) - does it go green then? Sounds like the SCART lead might not be connecting fully.

Regarding the signal, what does the signal meter say on the manual channel scan screen, particularly on the channels that you are having trouble with. In my experience the tuners in the newer models can cope better with a weaker signal than the T825, generally. Does it happen on all channels or just some?

Thanks - it seems like it was the scart - the cable must have got trapped under something (TV unit?) with all the moving about - so the 'plugs' were fine but when I went along the cable and wriggled where it had been squashed it gave the tv a green tinge...swapped for a new cable and so far so good...phew!
Today signal is much better - it is registering as good- very good...it seemed to be a problem on several different channels but the one I was watching was channel 4+1...
We are in a strong signal area (with a rubbish aerial) but sometimes we get a really really poor signal - not sure if it is the weather or ... there is a small airport nearby and we are about 5 miles from RAF Leuchars - often wonder if we get some kind of interference from them? (Maybe just a coincidence - we had one of these episodes with the new box...)

Still don't understand how the bug page works so...
Liking the Logik 1TB seems to be working ok - except...
I have had the same problem as soup dragon - the recording is about to start on another channel one...
And also the subtitles on recorded programs seem to be out of sync (not sure if that is a recording problem or not - definitely on BBC1 not sure about other channels...)
Also it is really slow at start up from standby...
Hope that helps someone somewhere...
